Carroll ran for Governor of Hawaii in 2018. He was defeated in the Republican primary on August 11, 2018. Carroll was a 2016 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Hawaii.[1] Carroll was a 2012 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Hawaii.

Career
Carroll has been the principal attorney at the Law offices of John S. Carroll in Honolulu, Hawaii since 1998.[2] He also served as a commercial pilot who flew for Hawaiian Airlines from 1958 until 1989.[3]

Incumbent Brian Schatz (D) defeated John Carroll (R), Michael Kokoski (L), Joy Allison (Constitution Party), and John Giuffre (American Shopping Party) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Schatz defeated Makani Christensen, Tutz Honeychurch, Arturo Reyes, and Miles Shiratori in the Democratic primary, while Carroll defeated Karla Gottschalk, Eddie Pirkowski, and John Roco to win the Republican nomination. The primary elections took place on August 13, 2016.[1][4]
