Herman "Rusty" Johnson is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Johnson joined the court on June 1, 2017.[1]
Education
Johnson obtained a B.A. in economics from Duke University in 1991 and a J.D. and master of international affairs from Columbia University in 1999. During his legal studies, Johnson was on the staff of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review.[1]

Johnson was a law clerk to Judge Martha Craig Daughtrey of the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and to Judge Myron Thompson of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama. Johnson was a volunteer with the Peace Corps for two years.[1]

Johnson joined the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama as a federal magistrate judge after an appointment in 2017.[1]
