2016

The following issues were listed on Drake's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Education: Firstly, we must recognize that school choice ought to be a nation-wide educational right...Secondly, we must stop pushing the notion that every child must go to college in order to get ahead in life... In the realm of college education, we must drastically restructure how students and their families pay for the cost of college. Student loans have much higher interest rates than any mortgage a family may take out on a home, and students graduate with as much debt, but with no property to hand down to their families.
  • Jobs: High tech employment and energy efficient companies will be at the forefront of the new CD5. We must also encourage the return of manufacturing and the continuing import of skilled labor into the district. The best way of doing this is to give tax breaks to companies willing to employ more of our hard working citizens in the 5th
  • Individual Rights: The Constitution is the foundation of our republic and we must never forget the important rights guaranteed within. We must be free to associate, free to think, and free to live how we wish. The anti-intellectual suppression of ideas based on political correctness on our college campuses is incredibly concerning, and we must reaffirm our belief in the 1st Amendment as the driver of discovery and self-expression.
  • Housing: Within this district we have a large amount of run down housing stock, remnants from the tornado that swept through the Twin Cities in 2011. Housing that has yet to be repaired in the area in spite of all the Democrats that have been elected year after year. We need to incentivize development in this area, encouraging companies to come in and redevelop this area into lower cost homes. For those already have a home, we must make the refinancing of mortgages easier to accomplish
  • Foreign Policy: It is the duty of the American government to put Americans first. For decades we have been jumping from one country to another, wasting man power, money, and raw materials in countries where we have no real impact on the lives of ordinary Americans. This must stop. Trillions of dollars have been poured into Kosovo, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan and so many other places. Imagine all the good we could do reallocating that money to helping Americans here at home.
