|I am a daughter of southeast Denver: I was born and raised across the street from Bible Park by two lifelong educators, and I chose to raise my family in the same community. I am a proud Denverite, and I'm proud that both my children have attended DPS schools. My daughter graduated from DCIS in 2016 and my son is a senior at Thomas Jefferson, the same high school I graduated from a generation ago.
I have been active in my children's education from day one, but my advocacy has extended far beyond my own kids: I have dedicated my life to service and improving educational opportunities for all Denver children - particularly those who come from marginalized and underserved communities.
- Work to ensure that every child feels safe and welcome at school.
- Invest resources in expanding early educational opportunities.
- Shift more decision-making from the DPS bureaucracy closer to our classrooms by empowering families, educators, and school leaders to lead
After serving in Honduras with the Peace Corps, I began my career with the Colorado Children's Campaign, and thereafter worked with Colorado Bright Beginnings, Family Star Montessori, Mile High United Way, and am now the president of Scholars Unlimited. I have also served on the board of the Denver Preschool Program, the DPS Bond Oversight Committee, and the Strengthening Neighborhoods Committee. I am proud to have led on policy initiatives to innovate and build equitable after-school care for children in Denver. I am now running to serve on the school board because I have a deep commitment to education, I love our community, and I understand both its history and its potential. I am proud to have been part of so many efforts over the years that have positively impacted the lives of many of our DPS children, and as a board member I will ensure that all students in southeast Denver's District 1 achieve their full potential and thrive.
