My name is Demytris Savage-Short and I am running for School Board in District 1. I moved to Nashville Tennessee in 2009 for employment purposes. My profession is pediatric nursing, but my passion is advocacy and education. Within the fifteen years of nursing, eleven of those years have been in pediatric nursing. The majority of my career has been about serving and teaching the patients and families along with being their advocate.

During the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020, I got the opportunity to focus on my children’s education. I quickly realized that our parental rights (according to the Tennessee Parental Rights Laws) and authority were in serious danger and still are. I realized that the government was attempting to take the place of parents to disciple our children. I prayed about the next steps and was inspired by Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Education begins at home with the parents.

  • Education – Advocate for a classical education curriculum that emphasizes the fundamentals of math, science, and history. – Encourage reading literacy. – Introduce logic classes to counteract SEL. – Focus on education rather than indoctrination.
  • Protection – Safeguard the voices and rights of parents/guardians. – Shield children from pornographic and age-inappropriate content. – Enhance the safety of school buildings and facilities through proactive investment. – Preserve our Judeo-Christian values and historical legacy.
  • Equip – Provide children with essential life skills, academic knowledge, and trade skills to excel. – Supply teachers with the necessary resources and tools for educating children. – Strengthen school finances by eliminating wasteful and unnecessary spending.

Protecting parental rights and making sure children are educated and not indoctrinated.

I look up to Jesus. He is the only example I follow.

The legacy I would like to leave is that the children were educated and not indoctrinated. The children actually know this is a Constitutional Republic and they understand their freedom they truly have.

The Holy Bible. Because it is my identity.

instituting a curriculum that promotes a classical education to ensure education and not indoctrination

Highly encourage them to seek professional help outside of school because a school is not a hospital or medical clinic. Give them resources to find the adequate help.

we would have monthly town hall meeting in my district and ensure parents are fully aware of their child's progress. Encourage parents to be their child's advocate.
