|I am a former teacher, a mom and a peacemaker. I have successfully raised five children to adulthood and we are expecting our first two grandchildren this fall. I currently serve as the program manager for Women's Health at the Knox County Health Department. Over the years I have taught Deaf student and worked in Early Intervention Services with Special Needs students. I worked as a Dorm director and supervisor of Housing at Maryville College. I have coached swimming, served as Operations Director for Swimming and Diving at the University of TN. I serve on the board of a non profit NGO in Uganda called Village2Village Project and travel there every year to provide support and encouragement to the Ugandan staff and visit our amazing students. I am a member at St Luke's Episcopal church. I enjoy biking and swimming and I run as well because I love triathlons. Kayaking on the river near our home is also something I enjoy.
- I am a strong supporter of public education and desire to keep public dollars in public schools that are accessible for all
- I am concerned for our teachers and want to empower them with the resources they need to teach our children.
- I want to create equitable practices across our school system to ensure every child has what they need to learn and grow.
I am concerned about the push for charter schools and vouchers. I want to keep public money in public schools. I want to fight for the rights of teachers to use their training and expertise to plan curriculum and meet the diverse needs of our students. I want to be sure that all subjects are taught accurately at an appropriate level.
