|I’m a local mom of three teenaged daughters and a licensed Colorado attorney with a Masters Degree in Business Administration. I’ve lived in Colorado on and off since 1989 and moved to Hilltop permanently in 2016 to raise my kids near family and friends. It has been my honor to represent the residents of District 5 for the past four years.
I ran for office in 2019 to amplify the voices of our neighborhoods, and have worked hard in my first term to advocate for the issues you care about including: crime, traffic safety, affordability, homelessness, and quality of life. I believe that our government is stronger when community engages in the process, and my staff and I strive to provide excellent outreach, engagement, and customer service to our residents.
I’m a solution-oriented leader, and I have worked closely with community and City Agencies to address the challenges facing Denver. I look forward to continuing this work in my next term.
- Solutions for a Safer City: As a parent, I understand the challenges that have led many Denver families to move to the suburbs, like our crime rates and traffic concerns. Over my first term, I have worked hard to implement solutions to these challenges, and I'm proudly endorsed by the Denver Police and Denver Firefighters. In my next term, I will continue to address neighborhood and transportation safety issues in District 5.
- Thoughtful About Development: Denver is going to continue to grow, but we need to be thoughtful about our City planning and the consequences those decisions have on our neighborhoods. I'll continue to vote only for smart housing solutions that fit Denver's needs, and continue to use tools like legislative rezonings to ensure thoughtful growth in District 5 with an eye to maintaining the unique character of our neighborhoods.
- Representing Your Voice: I have earned a reputation as a fair and collaborative Councilmember who is willing to listen to all sides. I have consistently represented your voice through my votes, been responsive to your outreach, and explained the reasons for my decisions. We may not always agree, but you will always know where I stand and why. I'll continue to find solutions to Denver's challenges in the next four years.
I'm passionate about community safety, government transparency & accountability, affordability, housing, and strive to provide excellent customer service to my residents.
My first job was a summer job working as a short-order cook at a local swimming pool. I loved that job, and I learned to cook there. I also learned how important it is to provide excellent customer service and to treat people with respect no matter what. I still make a mean grilled cheese because of this job!

Amanda Sawyer completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2019. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Sawyer's responses.
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
When elected, I will: 1. Represent the voice of the people who live in our neighborhoods on City Council. We are being left behind as the interests of big developers are being catered-to without thought to the consequences for the people who live and work here. I am not accepting campaign contributions from big developers. My campaign is people-focused 2. Advocate for more staffing and proper allocation of resources to combat our rising crime rate. Our police are understaffed and our districts are too big. That leads to slow response times and lack of responsiveness. We need to make sure our City employees are receiving the support they need so our families are safe. 3. Identify and put in place a dedicated source of funding for public transportation and mobility infrastructure. Right now, Denver's only funding for this is allocated in our annual budget, which means it changes every year and as a result, our transportation needs are not being met and our environment and quality of life are diminished. I believe we should assess a fee to private companies that are using our public streets for their corporate gain as part of a multi pronged solution to funding transit and infrastructure in Denver.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I am passionate about people. I have three young children and I want to make sure our City remains a wonderful place to live and work. That means being thoughtful about who we want to be as a city moving forward, with parks and open space, reliable, clean, safe public transportation options, and a sense of community that is inclusive of all.
