A zodiac sun sign can say a lot about a person. Your sign can be a great guide, whether it’s personality traits, compatibility with a crush, or even dining preferences. Your drink order — your “it” drink — can also say a lot about you.
According to Nick Grigolia, better known on social media as “Zodiac Boyfriend,” our sun signs can boost our confidence for a night out. An astrology buff from the time he was a teen, Grigolia, an Aquarius sun, says that he always felt like a bit of an outsider — until he realized how to embrace his quirky Aqua sun.
“The sun represents our ego, basic personality, and identity,” he says. “It can tell us about our self-esteem and confidence. The sun is uncomfortable [in the sign of] Aquarius, which is why many Aquarians can go [through] life feeling misunderstood or left out. Aquarius [should] understand that you don’t have to fit in — in fact, you have to stand out by being your unique self.”
Grigolia says he’d love to try the unique “Lost in Translation” on our Aquarius cocktail selection. And don’t worry, we’ve got all the other zodiac signs sorted, too. Here are 12 cocktails around Atlanta that keep the essence of each zodiac sign in mind.
Aries
Dates: March 21 to April 19
Element: Fire
Key traits: Ambitious, headstrong
What to Sip: A wallflower drink will not suit Aries; these fiery types are known as confident go-getters. At The Optimist in West Midtown, you’ll find “Wake Up, Feel Good” (green tea, lime, curacao, centum herbs, and yuzu soda) and “Chase the Day” (Spanish vermouth and Aveze liqueur) — either drink will give a ram their wings.
Taurus
Dates: April 20 to May 20
Element: Earth
Key traits: Cozy, indulgent
What to Sip: Earthy Taurus loves sumptuous drinks with comforting food, and both are at Petite Violette, a bistro on Clairmont Road. In addition to the vast selection of red and white wines, Taureans can pick from a selection of cocktails named things like “Spring in Paris” (gin with peach and lemon balsamic, Crème de Peche, and sparkling wine) and an Olive & Herb Martini.
Gemini
Dates: May 21 to June 21
Element: Air
Key traits: Youthful, conversational
What to Sip: These early summer babes love a good convo, and the “Jive Talk” at Bar Margot (almond-infused Diplomatico rum and Cointreau, plus pineapple, coconut, and orange) will keep the discussions flowing. Another option, the “Mountain of Youth” (Don Fulano Fuerte, blended blueberry, Aperol, and ancho lime), is a nod to a Gemini’s ageless and airy glow.
Cancer
Dates: June 21 to July 22
Element: Water
Key traits: Caring, aquaphilic
What to Sip: No sign loves water more than Cancer, and when these crustaceans feel a little land-locked, the remedy is an ocean-themed spot like Strangers in Paradise. Featuring drinks such as the “Pink Flamingo” (prosecco, watermelon nectar, aperol and lemon) and “Hawaiian Shirt Night” (bourbon-aged rum, coffee liqueur, and banana bitters), even city crabs will feel right at home.
Leo
Dates: July 23 to August 22
Element: Fire
Key traits: Feisty, gregarious
What to Sip: Born during the hottest part of the year, Leo’s “mane” character energy deserves a fiery drink like the “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” from The Southern Gentleman. Made with Hornitos reposado tequila, St. Germaine, lemon, lime, cucumber and fire bitters, it’ll keep things ignited for every cool cat.
Virgo
Dates: August 23 to September 22
Element: Earth
Key traits: Orderly, discerning
What to Sip: With their eye for detail and love for structure, Virgos crave precise cocktails made with clean ingredients. The “Glen & Tonic” (gin, Italicus, grapefruit, rosemary, and tonic) or “James [Bond’s] Perfect Martini,” both on the list at Vesper ATL, are as classic and focused as this grounded sign.
Libra
Dates: September 23 to October 22
Element: Air
Key traits: Social, diplomatic
What to Sip: Bubbly Libras know how to start the party — and parties keep going at the Westside social paradise Your 3rd Spot. Order the “ATLemondrop” (reposado tequila, limoncello, and lemon juice) to match Libra’s lighthearted mood, and ask friends to join — there’s a whole zodiac cocktail menu!
Scorpio
Dates: October 23 to November 21
Element: Water
Key traits: Mysterious, metaphysical
What to Sip: Absinthe has long been associated with mystery, artistry, and healing — perfect for Scorpio’s watery depths. At Kimball House, the eccentric spirit gets a whole menu of blanc and vert varieties. Served French style with water and sugar, it’s sure to pique a Scorpion’s interest.
Sagittarius
Dates: November 22 to December 21
Element: Fire
Key traits: Adventurous, free-spirited
What to Sip: Curious Sags, always up for travel, will appreciate a break from the usual scene. Get this fire sign glowing with globally-inspired Buteco, and order a “Caipirinha” (cachaca, muddled lime, cane sugar, choice of traditional, guava, passionfruit, or coconut) or a “Madre Mia” (tequila, ginger liqueur, lemon, grapefruit, and pineapple).
Capricorn
Dates: December 22 to January 19
Element: Earth
Key traits: Dedicated, practical
What to Sip: Capricorns get called all work and no play, but these earth signs still need time to unwind. Little Spirit’s cocktail menu has the playfulness a Cap needs, complete with “Saturday Morning Cartoons” (Trix-infused mezcal, aperitif, honey, lime, and orgeat) and “Princess Plum” (gin, Aperol, plum, lemon, cava, soda).
Aquarius
Dates: January 20 to February 18
Element: Air
Key traits: Progressive, unusual
What to Sip: Not everyone understands Aquarius, but these air signs thrive on being outside the box. Honor esoteric Aquas at The James Room with “Lost in Translation” (Toki Japanese whiskey, Haikara Yuzu saki, Fee Brothers orgeat syrup, and lemon juice) or “To Be or Not to Be” (St. Teresa Rum, Angostura bitters, Old Forester rye, orgeat syrup, and lemon juice).
Pisces
Dates: February 18 to March 20
Element: Water
Key traits: Romantic, idealistic
What to Sip: Pisces, the zodiac’s official dreamer, is always looking for life’s softer side. These romantics will love May Peel, tucked beneath Hotel Granada, for cocktails such as “Love is Blind” (Libelula tequila anejo, chinola passionfruit, cocchi rosa, carrot, lime, demerara, and cardamom) and the “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Martini” (Murrell’s Row Gingin, saffron, strega, Gonzales Byass Seco vermouth, and paprika oil).
