SHELBY – Former star volleyball player Navea Gauthier officially signed with Ohio State Nov. 15 and is looking forward to playing there and she and others offered reminisces of her time with the Tigers.

HOUGHTON LAKE – Shelby fell to Roscommon in a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 semifinal game 3-0 at Houghton Lake High School Nov. 12.

SHELBY — The Tigers have advanced to the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s volleyball regional round after defeating Hart in the district final, 3-0.

SHELBY — At the end of the 2024 volleyball season, Shelby’s Navea Gauthier established herself as one of the best players in Michigan high school sports history as she set a new record for kills.

SHELBY – Hesperia played Manistee tough, going five sets in an exciting volleyball match, but lost in five sets in the first round of the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Division 3 tournament.

FREMONT – The Hart Pirates lost their final regular season volleyball game Oct. 30 to Fremont 3-0 despite playing competitively and are now off to districts with a winning regular season record.

SHELBY – The Tigers met Onekama and White Cloud in a volleyball tri meet and swept both games handily Oct. 29.

HESPERIA – Hart, Hesperia and Pentwater competed in the 13th Annual Lori Vargas Volley Against Violence volleyball meet Oct. 12, and all three went down in the single elimination bracket quarterfinals.

CEDAR SPRINGS – Shelby came into a volleyball triangular and wound up splitting with a win over Manton and a loss to host Cedar Springs.

SHELBY — It was homecoming week for the Tigers, and the volleyball team brought out all the stops to make Oct. 3 a memorable day as they defeated Ravenna in straight sets in front of the largest crowd in Tigers volleyball history.

SHELBY – For Shelby Volleyball Head Coach Tom Weirich, the Shelby Homecoming Volleyball game Oct. 3 was a major success.

HOLTON – Shelby defeated Holton in straight sets in a volleyball game played Oct. 1.

What looked at first to be an easy victory for the Pirates turned into a slugfest and even though Hart volleyball defeated Mason County Central 3-1 at Hart Sept. 24, the game turned into a battle in the third and fourth sets.

HESPERIA — The Shelby Tigers dominated Hesperia in a volleyball game played on Sept. 17, defeating the Panthers in three straight sets.

WEST OTTAWA – The Shelby Tigers competed in the Panther Invitational Sept. 14 and wound up getting swept in four games with each one being best of three sets.

ONEKAMA — The Hart volleyball team traveled to Onekama on Saturday to compete in the Onekama Invitational, falling to the host school in the finals, 25-23, 25-21.

CUSTER – The Walkerville volleyball squad was swept by Mason County Eastern 3-0 Sept. 11.

MESICK – Pentwater was forced to play with six players but found a way to defeat Mesick Sept. 5 in five sets, 3-1.

WALKERVILLE – The Wildcats volleyball squad fell behind 2 sets to none against Muskegon Heights and things didn’t look good from there.

PENTWATER – Despite a current lack of bench strength, Pentwater volleyball gave Muskegon Catholic Central a battle for much of the game, but it wasn’t enough as the Crusaders beat the Falcons 3 sets to 1 on Aug. 27.

2024 OHJ Fall sports schedules

The Shelby Tigers volleyball team had to get contributions from everyone on the court because it was a team of only eight players, but it still found a way to win its third straight district, second straight league title and make it to the regional semifinal.

MCBAIN — The Shelby Tigers season came to an end Tuesday, Nov. 7 as the third-ranked Traverse City St. Francis Gladiators defeated them, 3-0, in the regional semifinals in McBain.

HESPERIA — The Hesperia Panthers volleyball team bowed out of the first round of the MHSAA Division 3 district Monday night, falling to Holton, 3-0.

WHITEHALL — The Shelby Tigers volleyball team was pushed to three sets in their matches against Kent City and Whitehall but won both matches at Whitehall on Oct. 24.

HOLTON — The Shelby Tigers defeated Hart and North Muskegon to win the West Michigan Conference’s Rivers Division championship for the second year in a row Saturday at Holton High School.

PENTWATER — The Pentwater Falcons defeated the Mesick Bulldogs 3-0 in West Michigan D League volleyball action Thursday at Pentwater.

Shelby’s volleyball team visited Cedar Springs on Thursday, Oct. 12, for a triangular and ended up 1-1 that evening.

WALKERVILLE — Despite an attempted comeback in the fourth game, the Walkerville volleyball team fell to Manistee Catholic, 3-1, on Thursday, Oct. 12.

SHELBY — The Shelby volleyball swept North Muskegon in a West Michigan Conference Rivers match Oc.t 3 at Shelby High School.

PLYMOUTH — The Shelby volleyball team went down to Plymouth to play in the D3 Showdown tournament, with some mixed results.

HESPERIA — The Shelby volleyball team won all three matches at the Hesperia Quad last Thursday, Sept. 28, at Hesperia High School.

The Shelby volleyball team went 3-0 last week with a win over Ravenna on Tuesday and double dual victory over Newaygo and North Muskegon on Thursday.
