A unique comedy, penned by executive producer Jeff Lowell, exposes the unfiltered thoughts of people seeking romance. As a new couple's thoughts -- with raw observations and frequent contradictions -- emanate, differences between men's thinking and women's are more obvious. Dana, a small-town gal who grew up dreaming of New York, intends to find love and success there. Peter, who thinks he's seen and done everything Manhattan has to offer, has a date with Dana -- after friends and family set them up.

Critics Consensus

Saddled with a worn setup and offensively bad jokes, Manhattan Love Story isn't very lovable.

Andi Zeisler Bitch Media (Alternate title: More White People Who Will Eventually Register at Crate and Barrel.) Jan 22, 2021 Full Review Melissa Maerz Entertainment Weekly Manhattan Love Story makes the male lead feel almost irrelevant. Rated: C Oct 6, 2014 Full Review Maureen Ryan HuffPost Jake McDorman is a bland dudebro with little presence; Analeigh Tipton is equally charisma-free. Together they both fail to enliven this generally lunkheaded material, which tries for rom-com lightness but falls conspicuously flat at every turn. Oct 1, 2014 Full Review Rob Lowman Los Angeles Daily News A lot will depend on how much you like the stars (they are cute enough) and how clever and insightful the banter seems. There seems little else to propel the series forward. All this inner monologue is a little wearing, though. Feb 26, 2015 Full Review Tierney Bricker E! Online Swiping this show to the left so hard and fast I'm nervous it might try and sue me. Nov 11, 2014 Full Review Whitney Evans TV Fanatic I found a lot to like about Manhattan Love Story Season 1 Episode 1, but I found the voice overs to be a bit jarring and not wholly necessary. Audience Member The banter is unnaturally gotcha-oriented, like in Friends the tv series. The male lead is kind of a douchebag. You can see many reasons why these two people should not be together, and the only reason they do get together is because of pressure from a matchmaking busybody female friend. After that, they never seem to share any interests or sentiments, so we have to assume it's just a physical attraction that they share. Somehow, the writers of this script seem to think that constitutes romance ? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Sweet and simple, this show was good while it lasted. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/19/15 Full Review Audience Member Funny, Cute and a bit awkward, just like every love natural story. :) Shame that it was cancelled.. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member this show is total shit. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I really like this show. It is so lovely. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I think the show is adorable and quirky. I say just enjoy it for what it is. Is there stereotyping? Yes. Are some jokes crude? Yes. Do we all know people like this in real life? Yes. So what's the problem? Everyone is always searching for something that hasn't been done, but I say, why not just enjoy this cute and quirky idea.....I like it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
