About HUMBUG
HUMBUG is a Brisbane-based computer club, focusing on Unix and Unix-like operating systems along with Open Source software. The club has several aims:
- to be a useful source of technical help
- an opportunity to network with people of similar interests and abilities
- to help spread the word about alternative operating systems and open source software
- a social outlet.
We meet every 2nd Saturday at The University of Queensland's St Lucia campus. Meetings start from 3pm and can go to midnight.
Members and interested visitors meet to discuss technical issues relating to Unix and Open Source, help each other out and to socialise. Our members vary from people with very basic computer skills right up to people people with advanced computing skills. We encourage people to give Unix and Open Source a go and will help people transition to Unix and Open Source.
HUMBUG frequently hosts presentations by club members or visiting guests. The Meetings page has further details about upcoming Talks.
In case you wanted to know what the acronym HUMBUG actually stands for, it is Home Unix Machine, Brisbane User Group.

HUMBUG's History
The first HUMBUG meeting was held on Friday the 8th of September, 1995. This was the first and only meeting held on a Friday night; popular demand at this meeting concluded that all future meetings would start at 3pm on Saturdays. At first, meetings were held monthly. Fortnightly meetings began with the 5th meeting, held on Saturday, 27th of January, 1996.
HUMBUG's role in the Free/Open Source community

You can find out more information about this event at Linux Australia's archive of the linux.conf.au 2011 website.
