I think that just about every person that lives in Sonora came out for the race start. All the stores were open, people were everywhere, it was the best start location the whole race.
ÂThis is the main street in town, the start line is up aheead as you can see, and the race came directly towards where I am taking the photo. There wasn't a lot of space in town, so the team vehicles also lined up on this street, as you can see on the right side of the photo. Normally they don't do that, for safety reason, they want the riders to have as much space as possible. But everybody made it work, and it just added to the level of excitement prior to the actual race start.

Sagan won the 1st 2 stages. That automatically made him the race leader, the points leader, AND the young rider leader. At every podium ceremony he was coming up 4 or 5 times to get each jersey, the winner's bouquet and he was also brought up with the rest of the jersey wearers.

Here's a shot taken just an instant before Mark Cavendish and Tom Boonen crossed the finish line. Look at Cav doing his victory salute while Boonen is still pushing with everything he's got, thrusting the bike ahead to get his wheel on the finish before Cavendish. Cavendish took a big risk and I'm sure he and his coach have reviewed videos of this.
