I’m CTO and co-founder at twobrains.ai, where I lead the development of our product line. I started that about a year after departing EBSCO Information Services, who had acquired my previous company, Zepheira, where I worked since 2009 on some of the coolest projects, and with some of the best people I’ve ever worked with.
I’ve done some consulting over the years too, and founded another company, Rove IT (now a SolarWinds company), who provided innovative mobile systems management and administration solutions for the enterprise. I also spent three years at at Sun Microsystems, which had acquired my previous company, Beduin Communications. I was Beduin’s CTO.
My principle areas of interest and expertise is Internet scale distributed systems, the Web, standards development, software architecture in general, and mobile/wireless.

Contributions
As an originator or editor of a specification, some stuff I’ve done includes;
- XHTML Basic; the core of WML 2.0 in WAP
- RFC 3236; the registration of the application/xhtml+xml media type
- RFC 3902; the registration of the application/soap+xml media type
- RDF Forms; extending the Semantic Web RESTfully with mutation and indexing support, as HTML Forms do for the HTML based Web
I’ve also contributed to; WAP 2.0, RFC 3023 “XML Media Types”, SOAP 1.2, XHTML Modularization, XHTML 1.1, XML Events, RFC 3470 “Guidelines for the Use of XML within IETF Protocols”, Compound documents.
I am an enthusiastic fan of the World Wide Web, in particular the two primary specifications that made it all possible (HTTP 1.1, and URIs), and the architectural style, REST, that was used by Roy Fielding to craft them. I used to spend far too much of my free time educating others, and generally evangelizing the profound implications of the Web and REST, but have stuck to simply applying it to my own software more recently.
