I preserve eggs for winter using water glassing (lime water). Since I don't know if those lime coated shells are entirely safe for chickens, they end up getting crushed and thrown into my compost. It adds calcium to the soil which is good for tomatoes, squash, etc.

I also occasionally crush some egg shells using a food processor to a powder level. I put this in an old spice container and put a little in with my coffee grounds when I brew coffee. It cuts down on the acidity and bitterness of the coffee and I'm sure provides some calcium for my own nutrition. The used grounds/powdered shell also end up in the compost

I crush them and feed them to the flock. I also sprinkle it around the yard for them to eat as they go, but mostly to promote healthy soil. We also use it in the garden, but not as often.

I would like to carve them, but I don't have the talent or the patience.
