Goose enrichment

No blockages yet. My biggest concern with them eating it would be if the cardboard was treated with anything, so that's something to check for. They never eat all that much. It's more like little tastess to see if the cardboard has turned into something tastier since the last time they nibbled it. You can almost hear them saying, "Nope, still cardboard. Let's rip it up and see if that makes it turn into lettuce!" Or sometimes they just ignore it for a week until a gander decides it's a threat and charges it. The boys are always very proud to have saved the flock from the menacing box of dooooooom.

Last year I was watching my geese take small branches off the willow tree trimming that we feed to the goats, and they would jam them in the mud, than stripped off the bark and would consume it. So apparently wood is on their menu. Makes sense that cardboard might be too.

Yeah, it's interesting what they'll consume. I breed my birds for meat and always dig through the contents of their gizzard to see what they're picking up. I try my hardest to clean up everything, but the previous owners were poor land stewards and I've had a couple birds that had picked up items that would have obviously caused issues down the line if they hadn't been slated for the table. All I can do for the birds I keep is continue cleaning up everything I find and hope they never gobble up something that'll hurt them. I'd understand anyone not feeling comfortable with letting their birds chew boxes, but if all I found trash-wise on this property were cardboard boxes, I'd feel so grateful I might even serve cardboard on my own dinner plate to give thanks.

Here too. If you dig a hole here you find garbage. I think it was normal back in the day.
