Our Rosie girl just recently started laying. Since day 2ish of laying she will sit in the egg box for over an hour after laying her egg. My son has gotten from her with no issues but do we let this go? Try and move her from the nesting box when we take the egg? Or is this normal?

Some hens just like to take their time. I have a couple that will lay their egg, then sit there and fluff the nest and chill for a couple hours. Just let her do her thing.

She sounds like a lounger, so let her sit there.

If you find her sitting overnight, squashing down like a pancake, ruffling up like a pinecone, making weird ticking sounds... then you have a broody.

×2 As is their right, of course. They've worked hard for that egg.

Another thing with young pullets that have just come into lay for the first time, this process is both confusing, and painful. Even for seasoned layers, you might be able to hear them grunting and huffing as their trying to push an egg out. For a pullet who is very new to this, you can imagine her shock with the whole thing. This might also be a contributing factor as to why your pullet spends some time in the nest while laying; it's a comfortable place for her to understand what is going on, and to recover from some of the pain she might be feeling for a bit
