If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what everyday stuff famous people add to their carts — like hair spray or an electric toothbrush. Back in 2020, we spoke with actress Sasheer Zamata about the hula hoop and sandals she can’t live without. Four years later, we asked Zamata — who recently starred in Agatha All Along — to revisit her list, and it turns out she’s still using some of it, alongside a few new favorites.
What she still can’t live without
I can’t remember when I started wearing Tevas, but they quickly became my favorite comfy shoe. They just air everything out. I have three pairs. They make for good arch support, too, and I need that because I have high arches. I branched out to get some “fancier” Tevas. They have these sateen ones that have a little crinkle on them, which is so funny because they still look like Tevas. They’re good runaround shoes and great to walk in.
It still works, still cleans my ass. It’s made it to multiple homes. So yeah, the durability on it is pretty impressive. I haven’t had to replace it or get another one at all. It still gets a thumbs up from me.
[Editor’s Note: Zamata’s exact bidet attachment is no longer available, but this is a similar option from the same brand.]
It’s still my go-to for couch time. I’m really impressed with how long it has lasted, and it looks the same. It hasn’t pilled or anything. The quality of it is still great. It’s lasted many washes. It still keeps me warm. It’s still really cozy. I like that it’s brown because if I spill any snacks on it or get makeup on it, you can’t tell for a while.
I still love that brand. I’ve gotten more jumpsuits and tops. I love the architecture of the clothes and that you can cater a jumpsuit to you because you can tie it in a way that fits your body. I love a jumpsuit because it’s just one piece. My most recent purchase was the Elizabeth Top, which I get many compliments and goes with so many different colors.
And some new favorites
The hairstylist who created it used to do my hair when I was in New York, and I trust her taste. I got to use some of them when she was creating the line, and I was like, Oh, this feels good. I was using products on my hair and on my body that aren’t full of tons of chemicals, and you can feel the difference. Her products are just a couple ingredients, and it feels good on my scalp. I love the mint tingle. I also like the bar because I feel like I’m not wasting a lot. When it’s a liquid that comes out of a bottle, I can squeeze too much out and just use it up pretty quickly, but with a bar, you just use whatever you need. One bar lasts me a year. To be fair, I have so little hair.
I love it because it’s genuinely moisturizing. I feel like my face is absorbing the moisture as I’m putting it on, so it’s not only protecting me from the sun, but I am not drying out either. I’ve had zero problems. I actually tried other sunscreens recently and got a little burned and was surprised. I was like, Oh, interesting. It just reinforces that when I use Black Girl Sunscreen, it works. It really does shield me.
I am trying to help the environment. Trying to be less wasteful, not just get things to immediately throw them away. Dish sponges are things that we use all the time, and it’s so easy to grab one from the store that you’ll need to throw away in a few weeks because they disintegrate and deteriorate, or they just collect a lot of bacteria. I like these reusable sponges because they last a really long time. Whenever I wash my dishes in my dishwasher, I throw it in there so it gets a power wash. Hopefully that’s a little bit of change that will be good for our planet.
I am consistently sore because I am nearing 40 and my body is just aging, so it’s great to have a quick way to massage myself without going to a masseuse or a chiropractor. I love doing that too, but it’s nice to be able to do this at home myself. There are different settings and attachments so it feels different on different muscles. It feels great on my shoulders where I also hold all my stress. I would highly recommend them to whoever is feeling like they need some release.
