"A creature created from all the tears in reality, capable of consuming time and space itself. A creature... you both know."
"Alioth."
He Who Remains and Loki[src]

Alioth is a trans-temporal entity that serves as the guardian of the Void. Alioth was created during the Multiversal War, where He Who Remains harnessed and experimented on his power, becoming his master. Under the moniker of He Who Remains, Timely weaponized Alioth and used him to end the war with his Variants. Alioth then served as gatekeeper of the Citadel at the End of Time and consumed most of the individuals that the Time Variance Authority had sent to the Void.

Alioth was created by the rifts in time and space created by the Variants of Victor Timely during the Multiversal War. After Alioth's existence was discovered, He Who Remains started to harness and experiment on the creature's power. In the process, He Who Remains became Alioth's master and used the creature's power to help him in ending the Multiversal War. When He Who Remains created the Time Variance Authority and set up residence at the Citadel at the End of Time, Alioth was tasked with guarding him in the Void.[1]

The likes of Classic Loki, Kid Loki, Boastful Loki, and Alligator Loki knew to be wary of Alioth, and were able to evade him for many years. Other entities were also able to endure the existence of Alioth, but Classic Loki would summarize the experience as being in a shark tank, with Alioth as the shark.[2]

Journey Into Mystery 01

Alioth guarding the Void

"This is the place where the TVA dumps its rubbish, everything they prune. And Alioth, he ensures none of it ever returns."
Kid Loki[src]

When Loki was pruned by the TVA, he ended up in the void, and caught a glimpse of Alioth upon his arrival, being informed of the creature by the other Loki Variants. Loki sought to kill Alioth, as he was a living thing. Later, when Sylvie pruned herself, she too came into contact with the monster, and during her flight, caught a glimpse of the Citadel. Alioth pursued her, though she escaped with the help of Mobius M. Mobius, arriving in a car. Laufeydottir believed she would be able to enchant Alioth, and in doing so, gain access to the Citadel and the being behind the TVA.

Classic Loki death

Alioth kills Classic Loki

When the warship USS Eldridge arrived in the Void, having just been pruned by the TVA, Alioth was upon it in an instant. The Ship fired on him, though the living storm was completely unaffected, and went about swiftly killing the crew, before stripping the entire vessel bare, leaving an empty husk, before moving off. This was observed by the Loki Variants.

Later, the Loki Variants and Mobius overlooked Alioth, and following their separation, Loki and Laufeydottir set off towards him, with the goal of enchanting the beast. Alioth headed for Laufeydottir despite an attempted distraction from Loki, but was drawn away from her by the actions of Classic Loki, who had formed a gigantic illusion of Asgard. Alioth was tricked, seeing it as a newly pruned meal, and was enraged upon realizing the illusion. Alioth bore down on Classic Loki, who accepted his fate as the beast consumed him, leaving only a charred helmet behind. Alioth then turned on Loki and Laufeydottir, only for their enchantment to work, dispersing Alioth and giving them access to the Citadel. The pair then journeyed to the Citadel, coming face to face with Alioth's master, He Who Remains.[2]

Alioth encountered Ravonna Renslayer when she was sent to the Void by an enchanted Hunter X-05.[3]

Loki and Sylvie Laufeydottir describe Alioth as an unthinking beast that serves his master without question. His only goal is to consume everything he sees. Like any predator, however, he goes after the largest meal nearby, the result being he can be lured into going after a bigger meal (an illusion of an entire city distracted him from eating only two people).
