What I have been working on

This week I have been working on quilting this table runner, designed by Heather Peterson of Anka's Treasures.

It's been a little bit of slow going because I am quilting on my domestic and I want to do each section carefully and right. But I know it's going to be fabulous when it's finished!

As time goes by

Thirty five years ago, I bought my first rotary cutter.

After attending my first quilting class, the teacher introduced us to a new cutting tool.  No more scissors or templates. This new tool was sure to cut accurately. And this little baby sliced through many miles of fabric for me.

Of course there were other rotary cutters along the way.

But I always felt the Olfa rotary and mat did the best job for me.

So when the anniversary rotary came out.... I had to have this red beauty.

Isn't she sweet? And now I must get busy making the quilt for the newest grandbaby who is expected to arrive early August.

Let's make beautiful music together. For another 35 years!

Happy Days

This past weekend I had the opportunity to gift this quilt to a little friend. A couple of years ago, while my husband was attending an event, Jackie checked on me, kept me company and brought me special things to eat.We had delightful conversations and, even though she was working, kindled a friendship.

So when we returned to New Jersey, I took the quilt and gave it her.

I think she liked it.!

The Memory House

The Memory House by Rachel Hauck is the story about two women, separated by 50 years. Beck Holiday lost her father at 9/11. She also lost all memory of him. 50 years previous, Everleigh Applegate's life is changed in an instant when a tornado rips through Waco, Texas, leaving her a young widow. Though the years, their lives intersect briefly. Both women are shattered by their losses, Everleigh can't let go of her memories, and Beck can't find hers.

The Memory House is a departure from some of Ms. Haucks other novels. It was sometimes hard to follow the different characters point of view. But the story is a gentle lesson about forgiveness and healing. The story takes you on a journey through tine. Where memories linger and brings hope and healing,.

Far Side of the Sea

Far Side of the Sea by Kate Breslin is by far the best historical fiction I've read this year. I loved this  World War I story and the beautiful way Ms. Breslin wrapped romance and mystery around the tale.

Lieutenant Colin Mabry has made a promise, and he is set on fulfilling it. When he receives a message by carrier pigeon from the woman who saved his life, he sets out to find the girl he left behind and bring her back to England. Who he finds in Paris is Jewel Reyer's half sister Johanna. After finding Jewel's diary, Johanna is convinced she is alive and equally seeks to find her sister. And will not be dissuaded otherwise.

I loved this story of espionage and adventure. Kate Breslin weaves such a beautiful romance in the midst of suspicion and trust. The historical element was equally fascinating. I would give this a 5+ rating.

Taking a drive

When you take a drive, it's always good to be on the lookout for a Quilt shop.  Recently I took a friend to Sarasota and on the way back I stopped in the Cotton Patch quilt shop.

It's been many years since I stopped in for a visit.

When we first started visiting the Cotton Patch, they used to carry the most beautiful Civil War fabrics,and lots designers such as Three Sisters, Barbara Brackman, Thimbleberries, Bonnie Blue (which is Red Crinoline now) and French General. All the fabrics that we loved. But then they moved. Closer to the Interstate in a highly populated shopping area. And they no longer carried these fabrics. Everything now is modern/beachy themed.  I guess the snowbirds love it. But it reminded me of why I no longer drove down to this shop. Please don't get me wrong. Everyone has their own taste in fabric. And mine just doesn't go in that direction.

However, they always had pretty samples made up for inspiration.

And so I say goodbye and I wish you well.
