The Twin

After piecing the Lavender quilt,

I decided to make a matching doll quilt.
I had a little of each fabric left, so except for one of the borders, it's pretty much a twin.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Prim Quilts

Have you seen this magazine written up on other blogs??

I found a copy at JoAnn's the other day. The cover quilt is just too cute.

There were several other projects that really caught my eye.

I'd love to make this one using some of my Civil War fabrics.

Do you like Primitive quilts?? I've always liked the Civil War fabrics and patterns. Sometimes Primitives can be a little on the dark side for me. But this magazine seems to have some very nice designs. Have you made any quilt patterns from Primitive Quilts and Projects??

Lavender Fields

Yesterday when I posted the picture of a little quilt I am working on, there were several comments about the color of the quilt. But it is not gray and yellow, or blue and yellow, but Lavender and yellow :-)

It all started with this piece of fabric.....

When I found this sweet butterfly fabric I had to add it to the lavender fabric I already had.

The lavender is such soft shades that my little digital camera does not really capture the true colors. But this is how it is coming along.

I love this pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew. This is the second time I've made it and Allison's pattern is certainly a classic that goes together so easily. It's a great tutorial.

Have a Happy Quilting day!!

Choose your Weapons

Rotary cutters. There are so many varieties available now. There are big ones, and small ones. There are cutters with straight blades and some with wavy blades. They come in an ergonomic design, or just plain ;-) The list could probably boggle the mind.

So, what is your weapon of choice?

Small?

Medium?

or large?

I had problems with this large blade rotary. The lock would not stay in the locked position when I would use it. I wrote to the company and they sent this replacement, no questions asked -

But my favorite baby is this one

She was my first rotary and I still love to use her when I am cutting fabric. I also find that my blades don't dull as easily when I use her sister mat.

I have several mats, and I find that the Olfa mat seems softer then some other brands. I don't know if that is what makes the difference in dulling a blade, but I'm an Olfa girl :-)

So choose your weapon................. and start cutting :-)

Happy Quilting!

(Since having a problem with a computer virus, I am not able to download pictures from my camera. So until my computer Geek son can fix the problem, I hope you don't mind if I have a few re-run posts :-)

Fresh ideas

It is always fun to find quilt shops when we are traveling. They usually have fresh ideas and lots of inspiration. It's almost like having your own personal Quilt Show :-)

I bought this pattern.

A simple design, yes, but I loved the color combination and use of scraps. Many times the patterns are familiar, but the use of color or fabric makes them unique. Do you buy a pattern because of a sample or quilt that you have seen made up??

Happy Quilting!

My Hero!!

My son is my hero!! I am so happy and thankful that he was able to get the virus out of my computer. Just Pam left this comment -

"I recently had to pay a few hundred dollars to get a virus off my computer. I have all the virus software too. The tech asked me if I updated my adobe and java. I do sometimes. He said the updates are security updates and since I don't do that all the time, that is probably how the virus got on my computer. You can be sure I update everything now!"

I asked my son if this might be the reason that we got the virus, and he said it was possible. A lot of times when I see these pop ups on the screen, I usually just click "no". My son said basically the same thing, if it is adobe or java, update it!! Just a little word to the wise :-)

So it will be back to posting about projects and some things that have been happening around here ;-D

It's a virus :-(

For the first time in 15+ years of having a computer with internet, my computer has been attacked with a virus. It must be a pretty nasty one too, because my son, the computer geek, has been working on it for two days. I asked him if he could fix it, and could it be salvaged? He told me he was not sure if it would be salvaged, BUT he could fix it. I asked him if I would lose a lot, and he said...... maybe.............

Sigh.

So I probably will be on a "not" planned cyber vacation.

Take care and enjoy your quilting. I hope to be back soon.

Yellow Brick Road Quilt

I've got one more border to sew on, but thought I would give a little update on the Yellow Brick Road quilt.

The blocks were moved around several times. But all in all I think it is a fun quilt

Follow the Yellow Brick Road

Last year I made this quilt for the Joplin project.

I used the Yellow Brick Road pattern, and I loved how it turned out.

Soooooo........... I managed to find a little bit more of the red floral fabric, and added some of my own to start another Yellow Brick Road.

I think this one is going to be just as much fun to make as the first one.

Happy Quilting!

Out and about

Last week I spent a few days visiting around the Nashville area. The heat was unbelievable!! But we made the best of it and found a few fun places to visit.

This quilt shop was in an old home. I loved some of the old antiques displayed around the shop.

They had lots of fabric and sewing machines on display.

We were on our way to find a place to eat, when we turned down a side street and came upon this ----

If you are familiar with Rebecca of A Gathering of Thoughts then you will recognize this as her sister's new shop. It wasn't open yet, but we could not resist peeking inside the window. It looks so beautiful. The next time we are in the area we will be sure to stop in.

Some of you may have heard about the events of July 4th when several people were electrocuted while swimming. Two children were swimming when some kind of power shorted off of a houseboat and the children were electrocuted. One child died at the scene, the other was revived and air lifted to Knoxville Children's Hospital.

Here is a link of the news broadcast when the accident happened.

http://www.wbir.com/news/article/225567/2/Update-One-dead-in-electrocution-other-child-revived

We learned last evening that the second child, the 11 year old, did not make it and is now with Jesus. This little boy is the grandson of long time friends of ours.

Please pray for our friends, their son and daughter in law and the surviving children. One of their other children was in the water at the same time and she sustained some injuries but has been released from the hospital.

Thank you for lifting this family up in prayer during this incredibly difficult time.

Florida Blessing

I love living in Florida. But it does sometimes have it's challenges :-)
