Flower Square 8 Tutorial

So, I did it. I made my first tutorial in years! I was a little rusty. And maybe the photo's aren't the best quality... But I'm working on it. Anywho, here it comes!

As in all of my tutorials, I use US terms:
Stitches:
Slip Stitch (ss)
Chain (ch)
Double Crochet (dc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Double Crochet Cluster (2dcc/3dcc): Yarn around hook, into a dc from previous round, pull trough, yarn over, pull trough 2 loops, there will be 2 loops on your hook, yarn over , hook in same stitch, pull through, yarn over, pull trough 2 loops, there are 3 loops on the hook now. Yarn over and pull through all loops.

To get started: Chain 4, join with slipstitch.
Round 1: Chain 2, 15 double crochets in initial chain-4 circle, join with ss in top stitch of first ch2. You have 16 stitches in total.

Round 2: Chain 2 in any stitch, dc in same stitch, chain 1. Now make a 2dcc, 1ch into the next 11 stitches. I use the ss from the previous round as a stitch as shown in the picture (see needle). Join with ss in top stitch of the first ch2. (See pic).

Round 3: Chain 2 in a ch1 space from the previous round, dcc into same space, chain 2. Into the next 15 ch1 spaces, make a 3dcc (so with an extra dc). In the previous round it was a 2 dc cluster, now we make 3dc clusters. (See photo's). Join with ss in top stitch of the first ch2. (See pic).

Round 4: Into the last chain 2 space of the previous round, ch2, 2 dc, ch2, 3dc. This is your first corner. *into the next space, 3hdc, into the next 3sc, into the next, 3 hdc, into the next 3 dc, ch2, 3dc*. Repeat * to * until you've reached your initial corner. Join with ss in top stitch of the first ch2. (See pic).

That's is. Finish off the loose ends and proceed as a normal granny square if you like (3 dc's in every space between and 3dc, ch2, 3dc into each corner).

My cushion is all finished. It turned out just the way I wanted, a real colorbomb! And I do like the off white instead of the bright white I usually used. To join the squares I used the join-as-you-go method.

Hope it's clear and will get you going! Let me know what you think. Have a yarn filled day!

By the way: You can find me on Instagram and also Facebook again...

Crochet Cushion Color Bomb

First of all, Thanks to you all for all the nice and caring comments on my last post. I really appreciate it!

I've been working on some very happy Color Bomb Projects. This is one of them. And how happy it turned out!!

As you all know, I love to work with many colors. I love to make them work together. I really love the results of this effort. I used my own Circle In Square Pattern (free tutorial).

The front crochet panel is sewn onto a fabric base cushion cover with zipper. Don't you love the fabric of the back? It's so fresh and lovely.

I like the edging too. It's very simple, like most of the edgings I use. But it makes the colors pop and it compliments the cushion.

This Colorful Crochet Cushion Cover  is for sale in the Color 'n Cream Shop. I wish you all a very happy monday!

Crochet Confetti Pattern

So, it's kind of a time consuming way of making confetti, but non the less, very durable and fun! Just think how lovely this luxury confetti would look on a pretty set party table, or coffee table. Or how it would brighten up your windowsill or just your pictures... This is how you make them. It's an easy and very small project.

Just make a magic circle, chain 1 and make 7 single crochets (UK double crochet) in the ring.

Use your scraps. I use mercerized cotton (also available in the Color 'n Cream Shop) and a 3,5 mm hook. Once you've made the sc's, pull the beginning of your yarn to close the circle. Now cut the end of the yarn and pull it through.

Now, look at the pictures closely how to join. If you do it this way, it's almost invisible where you've started.

Now just finish off and you are done!! Tadaaaah!!! Isn't it lovely in it's simpleness??

Let's PARTY!!!! Have a festive day!

Crochet Pattern Granny Square Blanket

TI'm done! The (English) Crochet Pattern Colorful Granny Square Blanket is in the Color 'n Cream Shop.

This is by far my longest tutorial yet. I'm quite proud of it, actually. I think it's very clear and detailed, as usual. So now you guys can make this pretty blanket for yourself!

It's been very rainy here these last few days. I love it actually. A little time to wear long sleeves and socks and stay in for a few days. We are crafting and watching movies... Lovely!

The Sunday Market was fun, although I didn't sell much/anything. It wasn't the right place for me, but the atmosphere was so nice and very inspiring. I wouldn't want to live in Amsterdam, but when I visit there I always come home totally inspired. Do you have a city you love??

Now I'm working on the new Flower Coaster Pattern, and after that I will get started on the Pink Flower Doily Pattern. I have lots and lots in store for you!

I hope to be back tomorrow, but I can't make any promises at the moment. The holiday is coming our way and my girls are pretty hyper. I need to distract them with little trips to sand and water, or grass and farm animals, stuff like that. Oh how I LOVE  summer!

Have a rainy day!

Crochet Pattern Flower Square 8

Well, I must admit I took my time... But here it is!! The Crochet Pattern Flower Square 8. Isn't it lovely?

I think it works well in a cushion like this. If you'd like to make a cushion like this, you can also find my Cushion Cover Tutorial in the Color 'n Cream Shop.

This is a pastel cushion, but I think it will also look pretty with bright colors. Where would you use these squares for and what colors would you choose?

The Mystery Project is coming along nicely. I think it'll be done next week and I will finish the tutorial too. I also wanted to ask you guys, for the Mastering The Basics Series, is there something you need? Is there a basic technique you'd like me to explain. Like finishing off the loose ends, sewing squares together, stuff like that?

Anyway, hope you have a sunny day!

Crochet Cushion Tutorial

As promised, today my Cushion Cover Tutorial is finally available in the Color 'n Cream Shop. This is the pretty example I've used in the Tutorial. Isn't she a beauty? I actually love this small cushion. I think I'll make more. They are sooo cute! If you're interested in the cushion itself, keep an eye on Facebook. I'll let you know once it's available.

And of course, this is what all the ado is about. The back... I might even like it better than the front. What do you think? And the fabric is to die for! I bought it in Chiang Mai 2 years ago and still have some meters left.

I got my first custom order this morning. I'm so very excited!! I will keep you posted on this one. It's gonna be lovely and something else from what I did before, but still very Color 'n Creamy.

Ahh, how I love this cushion. If you would like to make your own, check out the Crochet Pattern for the Flower Square, and use my free Joining Solid Squares Tutorial to make the front panel and back strip.

I totally forgot to tell you about the Amsterdam Maker Festival!! I made these coasters to take along with the others, last week. I really love the pink pretties...

Yes, these will shine on my own coffee table too. Aren't they sweet? The festival was fun. I met a lot of nice and talented makers and saw some beautiful and original stuff. I especially liked the work of Renske Versluijs. Beautiful leather and knit accessories! And her pastel color pallet... I stopped and stared at all that beauty.

Sadly, it was very quiet in the visitors department, so I sold close to nothing. But, I had a wonderful day and met some great people. Oh and did I tell you I was invited to attend a Craft Market in Sweden??!! More about that next week!

For now, have a color and creamy weekend!

Mastering The Basics: Joining Solid Squares

I've been totally neglecting my blog for the last 2 weeks. Prepping for the Amsterdam Maker Festival, taking the SEO course this month, having a little one by my side every day (sick) it was a little too much to keep this place going as well... To make it up to you: Another crochet tutorial in the 'Mastering the Basics' series. Joining Solid Squares.

For this project I used a 3,5 mm hook and 100% mercerized cotton. I always use US terms for my tutorials. The Crochet Tutorial for this particular square is available in my shop.
To start, make sure you have all the solid squares you need for the whole panel/blanket. For this cushion panel I need 9. Make sure you've finished off all the loose ends before you start.

Put 2 squares back-to-back and hold them like you can see on pic 4. In the corner space, 3 sc, from then you will be joining each pair of dc's with a sc. See pic 5/6.

When you arrive at the next corner, 2 sc into the corner space (not 3, that's only in the beginning en end of each row). Hold your next 2 squares back-to-back, into the first corner space 2 sc. Make sure to pull it a little, to make it nice and tight.

Just repeat until you reach the final corner space,  3sc into that space. Cut the yarn and pull it through. It's kind of weird, but this way it will look best when you finish the panel. Don't make another sc or knot, just leave it like this. You've joined 2 rows of solid squares now. Start with the next row in the same way, see pic 13.

Now you've joined all the squares on 1 side, you need to join them on the other side. Turn your work and just do as you did before. When you arrive at a corner space, 2sc, go over the fist row of sc's, 2 sc into the next corner space (pic 16/17).

For this panel you only need to do 1 more row, beforeit is done. You can make the panel as big as you like, just make sure you have all the squares before you start so you can finish each row completely. You want to keep on crocheting in the same direction for the prettiest result.
Before you proceed, pull out the beginning of your yarn of each row of sc's like shown in pic 20/21.

Now add another round of sc's around the whole panel. I always like to crochet around the loose ends so I don't have to finish them off later. 1 sc in each dc, 2 sc in each corner in between rows (pic 23), 5 sc in each corner (pic 24).

Join in the way shown on pics 25-29 or with a ss. Finish off your loose ends and VOILA!!!

Pretty simple right? And simply pretty too!! Have fun with it!!

I'm working very hard this week to make my Cushion Cover Tutorial. I hope to have it in the Color 'n Cream Shop at the end of this week.

Have a crochety day!!

Mastering The Basics: Classic Granny Square Tutorial

Over the last few months I got a lot of questions about the pattern for my Granny Square Color Bomb Blankets. It's a classic granny square, and for those of you that aren't familiar with it yet, I made a small tutorial to show you how simple it is. This is the first pattern I've used ever when I started crochet. Have Fun!!

Stitches (US Terms):
Magic Circle: Mc
Chain: Ch
Double Crochet: Dc
Slip Stitch: Ss

Start with a magic Circle. use the pic's above, or use a Youtube video tutorial (I will have one available soon...) for instructions. I always start my projects with a Magic Circle since it looks so much better when you are finished. If you don't like the Magic Circle, just chain 3 and join with a ss.

Round 1: Chain 2, 2 dc into the ring, ch 2, 3 dc into the ring,*3 dc, ch 2 3dc into the ring*, Repeat *to* 2 more times, Join with a ss.

If you want to proceed in the same color, ss into the next dc from the previous round and ss around the ch 2 from the previous round (see pic's 8-12). Than you can start the next round. (If you change color, skip this part and just start in any ch 2 space).

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2 3 dc into the ch 2 space of the previous round. *3 Dc, ch 2, 3 dc into the next ch 2 space.* Repeat *to* 2 times. Join with a ss.
If you proceed in the same color, use the same way as in the round before to go to the next round. (See pic's 14-19).

Round 3: Ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 3dc into the ch 2 space of the previous round. 3 Dc into the next space, *3 dc, ch 2, 3dc into the next ch 2 space. 3 Dc into the next space*. Repeat *to* 2 times. Join with a ss.

You can make the square a big as you like by just repeating the steps. Just make sure you use each space between 2 3dc's from the previous round. Of course, you can also use several colors instead of 1. I really love this pattern, since it's so easy and it always looks so good!

I will try to finish the Join-as-You-Go Tutorial next week, so you can really get going.

I hope it's all clear. If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know!

Oh, and about the edging... I'm working on some Simple Edging Tutorials for you guys, but again, I need some time.

Have a nice weekend!
