Tal i
com us vaig prometre, he preparat un mini tutorial de la manta de triangles que
us vaig ensenyar en el DARRER POST. De fet, més que un tutorial són petits trucs
que he anar descobrint a mida que feia la manta i que m’han ajudat a acabar-la
amb èxit :)
As I promised you,
I have prepared a mini tutorial about the equilateral triangle quilt that I
showed you in the LAST POST. In fact, more than a tutorial, I’m going to tell
you some little tricks that I’ve discovered as I was sewing which helped me to
finish successfully the blanket.
Quan
vaig decidir fer la manta de triangles equilàters vaig buscar online altres
tutorials, i al final em vaig basar amb AQUEST de Sew Mod. No obstant hi ha
algunes cosetes que m’agradaria dir-vos i que potser us aniran bé.
When I decided to
make this quilt I searched for some tutorials online, and in the end I followed
THIS ONE written by Sew Mod. However there are some little things I'd like to explain
you which it might be useful.
1. Prohibit tallar els triangles de manera
aproximada: FEU-VOS UNA PLANTILLA / Forget to cut
triangles approximately: MAKE A TEMPLATE
Doncs
sí... això ho vaig descobrir quan ja era massa tard! Jo vaig tallar els meus
triangles directament amb el regle i el cúter i utilitzant un triangle de roba
que em servís de plantilla. ERROR! Sempre hi va havent una petita desviació que
farà que després no encaixin perfectament tots els vèrtexs.
Hi ha
regles especials per a tallar aquests triangles, però també us podeu fer la
vostra pròpia plantilla, fent servir una cartolina, i així fer-lo de la mida
que vulgueu.
IMPORTANT(ÍSSIM!!!):
Un dels tres vèrtex ha de ser recte i ha de tenir una amplada igual al marge
que deixareu de la costura. És a dir, si cosireu amb la pota de ¼”, deixeu el
costat recte de ¼”. Si el feu de 1 cm, us servirà perfectament. Això sí, tots els
triangles iguals!
Yes ... I
discovered that when it was too late! I cut my triangles directly with the
cutter and ruler and I use the first triangle as template to cut the others.
ERROR! There’s always a small deviation from each piece you cut that will make
a not perfect matching points among your triangles.
There are special
rules for cutting these triangles, but you can also make your own template
using a cardboard, and so make it the size you want.
(VERY) IMPORTANT:
One of the three vertices must be straight and must have a width equal to your
sewing machine foot. That is, if you’re sewing with a ¼" foot, leave the
straight side of ¼". If you leave it at 1 cm, it will serve perfectly. Nevertheless,
all the triangles have to be equal!
2. Un a un i en el seu ordre / One by one and at the right order
Si us
heu dibuixat un disseny previ de la manta, us serà més fàcil d’anar col·locant
els triangles i acabareu abans, i així segur que no en talleu més del compte!
If you've drawn the
design of the blanket before start cutting or sewing it’s going to be easier to sew along the triangles and
you’ll finish it faster; and you won’t cut more triangles than necessary!
3. La unió dels triangles / Piecing triangles
Per unir
els dos primers triangles, ho heu de fer encarant les teles i ajustant el
vèrtex recte a la part de dalt. Cosiu el costat dret dels triangles.
To piece the first
two triangles, you have to put them right sides together adjusting the straight
side to the top. Sew along the right side of the triangles.
Una de les grans avantatges que he trobat que té aquest patró és que no necessites anar planxant cada costura a mida que vas unint peces, fet que sí que passa quan uneixes altres figures. Amb els triangles pots aplanar la costura directament amb els dits, deixant-les SEMPRE obertes, tal i com es veu a la imatge. Així es guanya molt temps!
One of the great
advantages I have found when sewing triangles this way is that there’s really
no need to iron each allowance every time you sew a new triangle. You just have
to press the end of the allowance open with the fingers, as it’s shown in the photo.
It really saves a lot of time!
Per unir els la resta de triangles de la fila, sempre s’ha d’encarar el triangle que volem unir als que ja tenim units i alinear el vèrtex recte al vèrtex on s’uneixen els dos triangles anteriors. Això pot confondre una mica al principi, però ja veureu que a mida que aneu unint files us sortirà de manera innata.
To piece the rest
of the row, you have to place right sides together the single triangle and
align the right side of it to the point where the last two triangles are joint.
This can be a little bit confusing at first, but as long as you piece
triangles, you will do it naturally.
4. Unió de les files: la gràcia del quilt!
Joining the rows:
the most important part of the quilt!
El
moment de unir les files de triangles és la clau per a que els vèrtex quedin
quadrats en un mateix punt i el quilt quedi ben acabat (ja sabeu que amb
això del patchwork és molt important que els punts d’unió entre peces quedin
perfectament quadrats!).
Aconseguir-ho
és molt senzill, sempre i quan hagueu tallat els vostres triangles iguals i
hagueu respectat en tot moment el mateix marge de costura quan els cosíeu entre
sí. Només necessitareu l’ajuda d’una agulla de cap.
Primer
de tot heu d’encarar les files que voleu unir. Claveu l’agulla de cap en el
punt d’unió dels vèrtexs de la fila que teniu cap per avall. Seguidament
claveu-la en el mateix punt on s’uneixen els vèrtexs, però de la fila que teniu
cap per amunt. Aguanteu-ho amb una agulla de cap. I així tots els punts de unió
de la fila sencera. Cus la fila respectant el marge de la pota, i planxa les
costures obertes.
Joining the rows is
the key of the quilt to look perfectly great (you know that matching points are
so important in patchwork!).
Achieving this is
easier than it looks at the beginning, as long as you’ve cut your triangles at
the same size and sewed respecting the same allowance. You just need the help
of a pin.
Place the two rows
you want to join right sides together. Match up the triangle points. Insert a
pin directly into the back of the triangle point on the top row. Then insert
that same pin into the bottom row directly into its matching triangle point. Push
that pin onto the ironing surface to secure the row at that spot. Place another
pin to attach both rows, and repeat the same process for each matching point of
the rows. Sew straight along the row margin and press your seams open.

5. Costures sempre obertes / Press always open seams
És molt
important que a mida que aneu unint triangles us assegureu que les costures
queden planxades obertes, per així evitar acumulacions de tela en un mateix
punt.
Un cop uniu
les files de triangles, planxeu també les costures obertes.
It is very important
to make sure that as you go joining triangles the seams are open in order to
avoid too much fabric at the same point.
Once you join the rows
of triangles, iron your seams also open and flat.
6. Els extrems / The rows endings
Els finals
de les files no són exactament la meitat d’un triangle, sinó que heu de
tallar-lo on acaba el vèrtex recte.
The ends of the rows
are not exactly a half of one triangle, but you cut it ends on the apex
straight.
I en
principi aquests són els sis consells que us puc donar i que jo he après fent
