"A Goofy Fairy Tale" is the series finale of the Disney Jr. animated series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. It premiered on November 6, 2016 and is the twenty-sixth episode in the fourth season, as well as the series finale to the original series.

Synopsis[]

When Goofy's magic trick accidentally makes all the bedtime stories disappear from the Clubhouse, he must journey into the Land of Fairytales to find the Golden Storybook to get the bedtime stories back.

Plot[]

The episode begins in the Clubhouse with Mickey greeting the viewers as Pluto joins in. Mickey plans to read the gang a bedtime story as they arrive. Goofy is ready to put on a magic show, but Minnie tells him that it's time to hear a story before bed. Goofy hopes to hear a fairy tale, and Mickey pulls the switch to reveal the library containing different fairy tales. The gang sings about what stories they should read. Goofy decides to use a magic trick to pick out a book, but when he says, "A book-a-doodle-doo. Fly away and shoo!", all of the bedtime stories disappear from the Clubhouse, to the dismay of everyone.

Goofy states that no matter what he does, he always goofs up. Mickey states that Professor Von Drake knows where the gang can find the stories. Mickey calls Von Drake and informs him about the missing fairy tales from the Clubhouse books. Von Drake states that when the stories go missing, they will be found in a magical gold storybook. If the gang finds it, they will get all of the stories back. The storybook is located in the Land of Fairytales. Mickey then goes to the Mousekedoer to pick up his Mouseketools: suction cups, sticky tape, an oar from a boat, and the Mystery Mouseketool.

The gang then meets Von Drake outside, where he opens the door to the Land of Fairytales via the light of a star shining through a telescope. Von Drake then informs the gang that to find the golden storybook, they must be smart and brave, as they will find it in the castle of the Beast. Von Drake states that the storybook contains a heart, a diamond, and a rose. As the gang sings about it, Goofy trips and knocks the remote loose, closing the entrance to the Land of Fairytales with Goofy trapped inside and the rest of the gang trapped outside. Von Drake goes to fix the remote control, meaning it's all up to Goofy to get the gold storybook and bring it back to the Clubhouse before bedtime. The gang knows that Goofy will goof up again, but they still believe in him.

Goofy begins his journey to get the gold storybook. Soon, he comes across two paths, where he meets Chip Thumb and Dale Thumb, who call him Goofyfella. Chip and Dale state a big problem at the Beast's castle, and Zooey then arrives. She gives Chip Thumb and Dale Thumb a ride to the Beast's castle with Goofy following while taking the path on the right.

Goofy soon comes across Pied Piper, Pluto, and some ducklings. Goofy greets Pied Piper and sees him not getting his ducklings together. He decides to play a silly song to them, and sees all nine of them present. Goofy accidentally breaks Pied Piper's flute, so he calls Toodles. However, Goofles shows up, as he is Toodles' cousin. Toodles then sends the Mouseketools to Goofles. Goofy, who states that everything is different in the Land of Fairytales, picks the sticky tape to fix Pied Piper's flute. Goofy and Pied Piper then lead the ducklings to the pond.

Goofy then resumes his journey to the Beast's castle by going through the woods. He soon becomes lost when he comes across Hansel Mouse and Gretel Mouse, who are also lost. They mention a trail of breadcrumbs to help them find their way back through the woods. The breadcrumbs are being eaten by Baby Red Bird, who apologizes for that. Goofy points to a house, and it turns out a witch lives there. She then arrives, introducing herself as Witch Clarabelle. Goofy introduces her to Hansel Mouse and Gretel Mouse. Witch Clarabelle loves to cook, and states that she got groceries and is on her way home to bake a big batch of merry muffins. Nobody in the woods ever comes to visit, as they're too afraid of Witch Clarabelle. Goofy, Hansel Mouse, and Gretel Mouse decide to help.

Upon arriving at the kitchen, Witch Clarabelle recaps her merry muffin recipe: one bowl of flour, four eggs, butter, three cups of milk, sugar, and spice. Since there is no mixing spoon to stir it up, Goofy calls Goofles for the oar, which Hansel Mouse uses to stir the batter. It still needs something to make it amazing, and Goofy knocks the blueberries into the batter. Witch Clarabelle states that the recipe needed a little goof, as her muffins will be merry berry muffins. Hansel Mouse, Gretel Mouse, and Goofy invite everyone in the woods to come over for the muffins.

The visitors like the muffins and Witch Clarabelle. Goofy states that he likes being helpful and mentions why he is at the Land of Fairytales. Witch Clarabelle shows Goofy the way to the Beast's castle, which is the path of diamond shapes through the woods. Goofy is also provided some muffins while Hansel Mouse and Gretel Mouse stay with Witch Clarabelle.

Goofy soon ends up at a giant ice hill with the Beast's castle at the top. To get up the hill without sliding down, Goofy calls Goofles for the suction cups. He still can't remember the third item on the gold storybook. Meanwhile, Chip Thumb and Dale Thumb can't open the castle's doors. Goofy then arrives and is told that Beast has Beauty in his castle and won't let her go. Goofy then rings the bell so that Beast can hear, but he breaks it. Beast then appears, demanding what the sound was. Beauty then appears, and Chip Thumb and Dale Thumb demand Beast release her immediately. Beast refuses, as Beauty tried to swipe a rose from her garden. Goofy then returns with the bell as Beauty claimed that she was only smelling the roses. Goofy introduces himself to Beast while telling him that it's not nice of him to keep Beauty locked up in his castle.

Beast states that it gets so lonely up in his castle and sings about being a beast making him blue. Goofy decides to invite everybody in the Land of Fairytales to Beast's castle for a ball so that Beast can make new friends. Since Beast doesn't know how to dance, Goofy teaches him the Hot Dog Dance. Beast follows Goofy's steps of flapping, bending, and kicking. Beauty loves it, as does everyone else. She decides to come to Beast's ball, as she loves dancing. Beauty decides to be Beast's friend, and the spell over him gets broken, turning him back into a prince.

The Prince's ball then begins with everyone in the Land of Fairytales dancing. Goofy, Beauty, and the Prince are enjoying it. Prince then decides to give everyone at the ball one of his special roses, and decides to show Goofy where the gold storybook is. Turns out, it is located in the Prince's library. After mentioning that the book contains a heart, a diamond, and a rose, Goofy sees it at the top of the shelf. Goofy calls Goofles for the Mystery Mouseketool, which is a bunch of balloons. Goofy uses them to fly high enough to reach the gold storybook. However, since he can't get down, Zooey arrives with Chip Thumb and Dale Thumb. They use Goofy's wand to pop the balloons, getting him down safely.

Prince tells Goofy to head home, and he has an idea of how Goofy can head back to the Clubhouse in time. At the Clubhouse, Von Drake has gotten the remote control fixed again. The door to the Land of Fairytales opens again, but since Goofy hasn't returned, the gang decides to head back to the Clubhouse for bed. Just then, Goofy returns while riding a dragon named Rosalie, Zooey's mother. Goofy gives the two dragons the muffins for a safe flight back to the Prince's castle.

Goofy is glad to be home and shows the gang the gold storybook. Everyone is relieved about it, and Goofy gives the book to Mickey. As the gang takes the book back to the library, Von Drake closes the Land of Fairytales again before following. He states that to return the fairy tales back to the books, the gold storybook needs to be opened. Mickey does so, returning the fairy tales back to the books again. Goofy tells the story about how he got the storybook and the different characters he met and helped while doing so. That's why the gang likes Goofy, as he is goofy and they like him just the way he is. A sleepy Von Drake then heads out of the Clubhouse. The gang then celebrates by doing the Hot Dog Dance in their pajamas. After Goofy invites the viewers to join along, the gang hops in their sleeping bags provided by the Handy Helpers. After Donald thanks Goofy for the bedtime story and Minnie wishes everyone sweet dreams, the series ends with Mickey saying good night to the viewers before a Handy Helper turns the Clubhouse lights off.

Trivia[]

  • This is the final episode for a few things:
    • The final episode of the original series in airing order; "Minnie's Winter Bow Show" was the final episode of the original series in production order.
    • The final episode of the original series to use the original animation style as the 2025 revival uses the same animation style seen in Mickey Mouse Mixed-Up Adventures and Mickey Mouse Funhouse.
    • The final episode produced in 2012 according to the credits. This is also the only episode of the five listed as part of Season 5 on Disney+ to be produced in 2012; all others were produced in 2013.
    • The final episode where the Mystery Mouseketool is chosen last.
    • The final episode where Russi Taylor voiced Minnie Mouse before her death three years later in 2019.
    • The final episode where the episode title is shown on screen.
  • Mickey and his friends are shown wearing their pajamas for the beginning and end parts.
  • According to the Amazon.com description of its book counterpart, it was originally planned to air in the fall of 2014 but got delayed for unknown reasons.
  • This finale was simulcast on Disney Channel and Disney Jr., and on the latter, it aired alongside the final episode of Jake and the Never Land Pirates: "Captain Hook's Last Stand!".
  • In this episode, Mickey and the gang did the Hot Dog Dance in their pajamas, but instead of leaving the Clubhouse during the dance, the Handy Helpers gave them sleeping bags so that they could have their sleepover.
  • Goofles takes over as the helper instead of Toodles in the special.
    • However, Toodles does retrieve the tools only to transfer them to Goofles later on.
  • This episode includes three fairy tales: The Pied Piper, Hansel and Gretel, and Beauty and the Beast.
  • Minnie telling Goofy that everyone loves him just the way he is, is much similar to when people can be loved just the way they are, said by Fred Rogers.
  • This is the first Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episode (and the only episode of the original series) to feature a character having heart eyes. In this case, it's Daisy.
    • This could likely happen again with other characters in the 2025 revival.
  • During the Mousekedoer song, Goofy is doing the exact same dance Mickey does during the Hot Dog Dance.
  • There is a storybook based on this episode.
    • There is only one difference: the telescope wasn't needed to make the door to the Land of Fairytales appear.
  • This episode is currently unreleased onto DVD.
  • Mickey says the final line in the series: "Thanks for stopping by. Good night, everybody."

Goofs[]

  • On Disney+, this episode is on Season 5 category despite it being a Season 4 episode.
  • During the scene where Minnie and Donald are showing books from the clubhouse library, Toodles is seen in his Season 1 design in the Mousekedoer.
  • When Mickey says "What a hot dog day!", the air pump is moving very slowly for a few seconds.
