响英文圈嘅文學傳統裏面，史詩起碼有得追溯到去古羅馬同古希臘。呢樣嘢亦都反映咗响語言度：廿一世紀初英文嘅 epic 呢隻字，據講係嚟自拉丁文（古羅馬嘅語言）字 epicus 嘅，而呢隻字本身就係嚟自希臘文 epikos－呢隻字响希臘文入面係泛指故仔或者詩噉嘅意思，尤其係講英雄人物嘅故仔同詩[2]。
