Discussion

- Support They link to the store when it is still being sold. Links to at least MobyGames (Q612975), Wikipedia (Q52), PCGamingWiki (Q17013880), Mod DB (Q2983178), widescreen gaming forum (Q111496447) exist for cross-matching. Matthias M. (talk) 06:07, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- Comment The whole slug does not seem necessary, only the last 3 characters − eg https://www.myabandonware.com/game/--f3n redirects correctly. Jean-Fred (talk) 12:53, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Jean-Frédéric: Since they are redirected correctly, yes, we can use shortened IDs, but I'm still not sure if it's worth it. As you can see in this screenshot, many of them are just random, confusing (because they give you the illusion that these are numeric IDs) and even look weird XD. Anyway, I've created a Mix'n'Match catalog for now, and let's see if anyone prefers full-format IDs. If we come to the conclusion that we shouldn't use the shortened ones, I don't think it would be a problem to re-create a catalog with IDs in a different format.
- P.S. I think I have a logical explanation for this kind of IDs. If you try to sort the IDs, you will see that this database structures them in a similar way to sorting in Excel/Calc. That is, when you reach the letter Z in Calc/Excel, your columns start going AA, AB, AC, etc., something similar happens in this database, but it doesn't work properly here because numbers are also used and everything is mixed up. They could have just used numeric IDs at this point. Why they had to complicate things so much, I don't get it XD. Despite this unusual way of structuring, I would still support the option of using shortened IDs. Regards Kirilloparma (talk) 01:29, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, it’s not as neat as a numeric ID, but it might be the case that if/when a game is renamed (probably not super likely with old games, but not impossible), the sluggified name changes, but not the ID, so potentially it’s more stable. So I think it’s a little bit better, but I agree not by much. Thanks for making the catalogue! Jean-Fred (talk) 07:48, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

- Support. With shortened ids (to enforce unique/single constraints). --Lockal (talk) 21:41, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
