CEDAR RAPIDS — A new American restaurant is opening this fall in downtown Cedar Rapids.
CityWalk Eatery plans to open in October at 102 Second St. SE. The location’s last tenant was the short-lived Barrel House, a growing Iowa franchise that lived there until July.
Owners Gaurav Gaud and Mandy Gaud, who purchased the building after Barrel House’s lease started, decided to open a restaurant of their own after the burger and beer spot closed.
“Barrel House wasn’t doing great. … We saw the way they were keeping the building,” Gaurav told The Gazette. “Instead of having someone else come in and do the same thing, (we thought) ‘Why not open our own restaurant?’ ”
The couple, who already own an information technology business and hair extension business in Cedar Rapids, are bringing in the right staff to launch an elevated American restaurant with good cocktails and approachable food.
Open for lunch and dinner, CityWalk’s tentative menu includes rib-eye, steaks, trout, pastas, wraps and sandwiches. They hope to eventually offer brunch on weekends, as well.
Gaurav describes the new concept as “reasonably priced, with good ambience.”
Renovations are underway and will feature a brand-new bar and backsplash.
