Former State Senator Cloyd “Robby” Robinson, 86, passed away Monday December 30th at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
He was born April 25th, 1938, in Norway, IA to Earl and Florence Robinson. He was the youngest of 12 siblings.
He spent his younger years in Norway before moving to Cedar Rapids, IA. Robby attended McKinley School where he met Shirlene Rimrodt. They were married on March 24th 1956. Robby joined civil air patrol in 1954 and was a member of the Naval Reserves. Robby worked at Quaker Oats, alongside his wife Shirlene, for 30 years. He also was one of the founders of the Quaker Oats Credit Union as well as St. Marks Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
He served in the Iowa Senate between 1970 and 1980, where he was Chairman of Labor Committee and Transportation. He worked for Iowans for Tax Relief for 30 years and was on the Board of Directors of the National Taxpayers Union. He also was nominated to the Unemployment Appeals Board by Governor Branstad where he served for 2 years.
Robby was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Florence; siblings and their spouses, Harold & Elsie Robinson, Glen & Letta Robinson, Merl & Irene Robinson, Eunice & Victor Nerison, Eugene & Darlene Robinson, Lucille & Marvin Brandt, Avis & Kenny Reed, Loyal & Jeanette Robinson, Carol Robinson, Gary Robinson and Marilyn & Pete Baudler; daughter, Shari and son, Rustin.
He is survived by his wife, Shirlene; daughters, Shawn and Shelly; grandchildren Tanya Sain (Michael Stines), Ryan Robinson, Noah (Elyse) Robinson and Hailey Stone (Antione Rhames); great-grandchildren, Laila & Traijan Sain, Henley Stines Amelia & Jaxson Robinson, Alysha & Aryah Rhames; bonus sons, Gary Haage and Thomas Zimmerman; bonus grandsons, Bruce Sain and Nick Ratliffe; as well as many bonus great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of his healthcare providers who he thought so highly of.
Mass of Christian Bural is 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2025, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, IA. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Norway, IA, at a later date.
Celebration in honor of Robby is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 2nd at St. Jude. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com
