Site is found for town's justice centre.

A CRIMINAL justice centre for Nuneaton looks set to be built on land in Wheat Street, councillors revealed today.

After months of speculation about the location of the new multi-million pound centre, the first of its kind in the country, a decision has finally been made about where councillors want it to be built.

The proposal is to site it on the Wheat Street car park and the adjoining county council land. It will house the police, probation, Crown Prosecution Service and the magistrates court under one roof.

Chief Constable of Warwickshire, John Burbeck, is chairman of the project, said: "I welcome the decision of the borough council."

"This project is unique and the Nuneaton centre will be the first in the country. We expect it to become a blueprint for criminal justice."

The plans are subject to gaining planning permission and the completion of a land survey.

The council's decision is subject to notification by the full council tomorrow.
