Scottish firm are no micro softies.
A SCOTS company are celebrating a huge legal victory over Microsoft.Front Page Design, based in Glasgow, have won the right to register their name which is also used by Microsoft, as a trade mark.
Boss Ian McMillan took on the world's biggest software firm and won, unlike the US government, who have failed to limit the scope of tycoon Bill Gates's enterprises at every attempt.
The battle lines were drawn when Gates's legal team objected to the Charing Cross company's name.
But Mr McMillan said: "Microsoft may be one of the biggest companies in the world but we were determined not to be bullied."
Now, after years of legal debate, London's Trade Mark registry have ruled Gates's objections are unfounded.
Mr McMillan added: "We wanted to prevent Microsoft pushing us around like they do so many small firms.
"It's a relief there is no longer a threat of Microsoft making us change our name."
Gates is not accustomed to losing. When US competition watchdogs ordered Microsoft to be broken up, his army of litigators successfully appealed against that ruling, keeping the vast organisation in one piece.
