Rugby: Barnes blast for champs.
ANGRY Ian Barnes last night warned Hawick they won't keep their Premier title if they lose even one more match. The coach hammered home his message after seeing the Greens lose 25-18 to Heriot's at Goldenacre - their first league defeat in almost two years.
Barnes said: "It's a huge disappointment but we got exactly what we deserved.
"We panicked after failing to capitalise on early control and surrendered the initiative. Basically, we can't afford to lose another game if we want to hold on to our status."
Heriot's chief Gareth Davies said: "There is a burning desire in the club to regain the title and this display underlined that.
"I am very proud of the way our forwards countered a renowned Hawick pack."
Newly-promoted Aberdeen GSFP again underlined their potential in a 17-12 success against Gala at Rubislaw, while Scottish Cup holders Boroughmuir shook off the effects of their opening-day defeat by Melrose by sweeping aside Glasgow Hawks 33-8.
