MAN ADMITS GROSS ACTS.

Byline: ANN HEALY

A MAN who exposed himself to children was remanded on continuing bail when he appeared before Galway District Court yesterday.

James Stockdale, 40, from Belfast, was staying in a rented house in Galway last August when he exposed himself and committed an indecent act in front of young children playing in a neighbouring house.

In court yesterday he pleaded guilty to two counts of exposing and indecency in public.

On August 16, he went into the back garden of his house, exposed himself and acted indecently in front of five children aged between five and 10, who were playing in the upstairs bedroom of a nearby house.

He committed the offence twice that day. The children didn't tell their parents as they were terrified of what might happen to them.

Two days later Stockdale committed the same offence on two occasions in front of two children.

A four-year-old boy told his parents what happened later that evening.

Gardai interviewed the accused who admitted committing the offences.

Detective McNulty said while Stockdale expressed remorse he felt it was only a matter of time before he re-offended and he agreed with defending solicitor, Adrian MacLynn that Stockdale needed medical treatment.

Judge William Earley said he would not impose a sentence without first obtaining a psychiatric and probation report.

He remanded Stockdale on bail for the preparation of these reports to appear in court again on October 24, on condition that he get psychiatric treatment in the meantime.
