Park is just a dog toiletWITH response to the recent letter from Ken Morgan regarding the well-kept golf course at Allesley Park and the dropping of litter.
I think there is a far more serious problem.
Dog filth.
I took my two grandchildren to the park last week and was continually telling them to watch where they were treading.
I did not follow this advice and came home with my shoes covered in the mess.
This has been an ongoing problem at this park for at least the last 30 years as I experienced the same problem with my own children.
This park is just a dog toilet.

Student fire alarms are too sensitive
RE: STUDENT hoaxers put lives at risk'.
A significant proportion of those "hoax calls" are due to the extremely sensitive fire alarms in the accommodation which are set off by simply burning your toast or leaving the bathroom door open when filling the bath with hot water.
I have just completed a gap year working as a volunteer for a disabled student at the university and was provided with accommodation with fellow volunteers as part of the package.
In my flat there were four false alarms caused by the above examples and on one of those occasions there appeared to be no reason for the alarm to have gone off at all, it was suggested that someone may have sprayed their deodorant too near to the alarm! I think the relevant article was misleading and could contribute to hostility in the city towards the students, something Coventry already has a reputation for.

No support
I WAS on the No 11 bus by the Maudslay Road-Allesley Old Road junction, when the driver had to take action to avoid hitting a pedestrian.
The bus had to stop at the junction just long enough for the man to lean into the window and spit on the driver. To the driver's credit he just took a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped the mess off his face.
There are not many occupations where a worker has to take this kind of abuse and not expect total backing from their employees.
The driver told me that he would not make a complaint and that I should not talk to anyone about it as he had a young family and feared suspension.
It is worse still when an abused employee cannot expect the fullest support from their union. This was a minor incident but there are many more serious where drivers are at the mercy of an uncaring public and an uncaring employer. I can only wish them well.

Profit from evil
CRONYISM and corruption is not only confined to local government, it infests in our "brave new world", almost every facet of our lives.
A blatant example is the so-called self regulation of the media.
Research into the effects of the media is financed by the very people that profit from gratuitous violence, sexually depravity and permissiveness.
But just when we believe that standards cannot possibly sink any lower, our media moguls prove otherwise, this time in planning to profit from serial killer Fred West's evil!
Although questions are being raised in respect of the effectiveness of regulatory bodies, may we urge offended folk to take the trouble to complain to: The Broadcasting Standards Commission, 7 The Sanctuary, London, SW1P 3JS

More than a paper
AS WELL as being an excellent newspaper the Evening Telegraph provides other services.
Although he probably won't remember me I was delighted to see your report on Keith Morris. We used to play on the wings together for the OC's many years ago and it was nice to see that Keith was still alive, kicking and looking well.
It was a real surprise however to see your article on Peter Royle. Pete and I go back about 55 years and when as schoolkids we played together. I remember going to the Bablake Sports events and cheering Peter on. It was good to read of his latest exploits.

Why does David Beckham wear white boots?
I WOULD just like to recount my evening in the company of my
22-year-old son on Wednesday when England were playing against Albania.
My son got the beers in, I got the wine in and we had a takeaway.
I say: "If the match doesn't start till 8pm can I watch Coronation Street?"
This does not go down well.
He replies: "But we need to watch the pre-match coverage at 7pm."
So Coronation Street goes on tape.
The match starts. I ask really technical questions like: "Why is Beckham wearing white boots? Where is Brooklyn ?"
My answer is not forthcoming and I get the look!
I say: "I think Albania are very good." Same answer and same look!
Steve McManaman comes on and I say: "Oh, what a good looking man and nice hair."
Again the look!
England win - hooray more coverage going on and on and about the match.
Still what is more enjoyable - watching the football with your son or watching Coronation Street by yourself ?

to the point
HOW reassuring to know that the Labour Party has finally realised what the general public knew years ago and that the flood of illegal immigrants has to end.
On a local note, I hope asylum-seeker friendly Cllrs Chater, Townshend and Lancaster resign as a matter of principle.
Let's face it, if the present council, Labour and Tory, had any shame they would have resigned en bloc considering Coventry is the pigsty of the UK despite inflation busting council tax rises every year.

I FELT I must write to you with regards to my hospital visit this afternoon.
My appointment was for 4.30pm. I left the house at 3.25pm and using public transport arrived at the hospital via Pool Meadow at 4pm.
I had my field-vision eye check and by 4.30pm I was leaving the hospital and I arrived home at 5.10pm.
I must congratulate all the staff both at the hospital and Travel West Midlands for their efficiency and courteous manner.
In to the bargain of course all of this was free due to the NHS and the fact I have a senior citizen travel pass. A big thank you to all concerned.

REGARDING the lady that was refused permission to board a West Midlands bus (Evening Telegraph, September 5). On a couple of occasions I've tried to board the Number 13 bus with my shopping outside Sainsburys in Trinity Street only to be told to go round to the Burges stop. And I am a pensioner.
Fortunately I now live in the town centre.
J Charley, Greyfriars Lane, city centre.
. . . IF THE transport office says it is okay for the No 2 bus (Radford) to pick up us old 'uns outside KwikSave why can't they do the same in Trinity Street in Coventry city centre for the Nos 13 and 13C?
I come out of Sainsburys with two bags of shopping and often have to walk to the Burges to catch the same bus, whose driver has refused to let me on.
I am 80 years old and Hales Street is very dangerous for young people never mind old. I hope something can be sorted out before the winter weather sets in.

I ENJOY taking my children to play at different parks.
A recent visit to a park in a rural location lead to an afternoon where my children used play equipment which had not been vandalised or covered in graffiti.
The local youth must use not abuse it.

IN REPLY to the recent interest shown in miracles, I must reply and say "yes" you can see miracles everyday. Anyone who wishes to witness one has simply to go down to the Safeway car park anytime the store is open. Just stand by the area reserved for the disabled and you will see most of these people, walking back to their cars completely cured!
