Keydates of fire dispute.

May 30: Two mass meetings of fire fighters vote for ballot on strike action over chief fire officer Malcolm Saunders's plan to promote non-operational staff to senior assistant divisional officer posts.

June 13: The FBU begins ballot.

June 21: Mr Saunders goes to the High Court seeking an injunction to stop strike ballot.

June 25: Fire authority bosses back down in high court bid.

July 5: Fire Brigades Union members vote overwhelmingly in favour of strike action July 13: First strike begins, with army Green Goddesses (above) providing fire cover July 26: Strike ends, with fire authority officially expressing its "regret" over its plans.

Aug 20: FBU discusses allegations of intimidation by management of union officials, warning it could lead to more strike action.

Sep 10: Firefighters walk out on wildcat strike after suspension of Toxteth FBU member said to be responsible for unofficial website.
