Hit the road for a stroll into history; LEISURE.
SOUTH Birmingham families who have made New Year's resolutions to get fit are being urged to forget the gym and instead go exploring dozens of fascinating English Heritage sites. The organisation's regional marketing manager, Andrea Fox, said: "Many people pay pounds 40 or more per month for a gym membership, but for just pounds 36 per year, an adult can enjoy a full year's membership of English Heritage, opening up some of nature's finest training facilities throughout the country."
Top sites for workouts in the West Midlands include:
Witley Court, near Worcester, where Woodland Walks through the North Park and the Wilderness Garden take a scenic route through the grounds, follow a winding path past many different species of trees and shrubs
Kenilworth Castle, where spiral staircases can give bums and legs a good workout as you climb towards fantastic views over the Warwickshire countryside. The Millennium Trail - which goes around the castle wall - is also a popular walking route.
Goodrich Castle in the Wyre Valley where the stairs to the upper floors are touted as 'far more enjoyable than a gym-based stair climber machine'
Wroxeter, where visitors can recreate the marching regime of Roman soldiers around the paths and trails of a Roman city.
