Football: Nevin: I'll quit if new boss is a flop.
Byline: HUGH KEEVINSIF Fir Park chief executive Pat Nevin picks the wrong manager for Motherwell he will quit.
The man who took the decision to appoint Billy Davies and was then part of a boardroom decision to sack him has a list of 33 candidates for the hot seat.
And he doesn't rule out the possibility of an approach to an un-named party who hasn't applied.
But the new man will have his and Nevin's fate in his hands.
Pat said: "If I make a gross error of judgment where the new manager's concerned it wouldn't be right for me to stay on.
"I was the one who wanted Billy but I don't accept his appointment was a mistake.
"He saved us from relegation at the end of his first season and only missed out on a place in Europe on the final day of the following campaign.
"However, there were supporters' banners wanting Billy out last season. And I can still remember fans calling for his head when we were fourth in the table."
Nevin doesn't have a contract and has no intention of asking for one.
He said: "I don't care about legal agreements. I'm dedicated to the job at Fir Park.
"But if the club want me to go or I decide to resign I'll go off and do something else with my life.
"It's my decision not to have a contract. Owner John Boyle has offered me a written agreement but I've always rejected the idea."
