Farmers' hopes for disease test.

FARMERS' leader Ben Gill has spoken of his hope that two suspected cases of foot-and-mouth disease in Leicestershire will not be confirmed.

The president of the National Farmers Union said the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) hoped the cases would prove negative.

"We are awaiting the test results for these cases and, while I do not want to be overly optimistic, the position that I have from Defra as from this morning is that there is hope that these will not be confirmed, " he said.

Two suspected cases have emerged, four months after the last confirmed case in Leicestershire.
