FOOTBALL: who's next top five.
GORDON STRACHAN's departure by mutual consent from Coventry has already set speculation in motion as to who his Highfield Road successor will be. Here are five possible candidates for the job.GARY MEGSON: The manager of West Brom and a former Highfield Road favourite was linked within minutes of Strachan's departure as the right man for the Sky Blues hot-seat. He has established himself as a good First Division manager and he steered the Baggies to the Division One play-offs last season only to miss out to eventual winners Bolton. He may not have the experience needed to take Coventry back to the Premiership.
JOE ROYLE: Has been out of work since leaving Manchester City at the end of last season. Royle turned around the fortunes of the Maine Road club taking them back to the heady heights of the Premiership but could not do enough to keep them in the top flight.
RON ATKINSON: The former Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday manager stepped aside to allow Strachan to take charge in November 1996. But Big Ron has found himself a comfortable number as a summariser and commentator with ITV. A return to football management is not out of the question but probably unlikely.
HARRY REDKNAPP: The former West Ham boss is now director of football at Portsmouth. Just last week he revealed he was bored with the post and missed being a manager and running a team on a day-to-day basis. The managerial post at Highfield Road could give Redknapp the buzz he craves.
BRYAN ROBSON: Parted company with Middlesbrough in the summer and a seven- year roller coaster ride of promotions, relegations and cup finals. Like Strachan he too enjoyed the patronage and patience of as loyal chairman in Steve Gibson but couldn't bring sustained success to the Riverside. Certainly a big enough name but does he has the record to satisfy City fans?
