Entertainments: BEFORE THEY WERE FAMOUS.

WHO'D guess this sweet little girl would become one of the fiestiest women on TV? But, her three brothers can all testify to some early displays of spirit. She once smashed an egg over the head of one of her brothers after he called her a name. She is the only daughter of a Glasgow girl called Sandra and an Italian dad Aldo, She graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 1989. There followed bit parts on shows like Taggart, Dr Finlay and High Road, but her big break came in 1996 when producers were looking for an actress who was "Scottish, with long legs". She recently took a year off work when she visited Kenya as an ambassador for Oxfam. She is 33, has been called the 'thinking man's crumpet' and has ranked fourth in a poll of the top 10 most eligible Scottish women. She says she is unlucky in love and is single after splitting from her musician boyfriend - a far cry from the sex-mad barrister role that made her famous. She lives in London, but often returns to her family home in Largs and their famous ice-cream shop.
