EastEnd cleans up at gongs.

EASTENDERS swept the boards at a TV awards ceremony last night while Coronation Street stars left empty-handed.

The BBC show was named best soap in the TV Quick magazine awards and went on to win all the categories it had entered.

Martin Kemp was best soap actor, Natalie Cassidy best soap actress and Jessie Wallace best newcomer. The best storyline was Who Shot Phil?

TV Quick editor Lori Miles said: "It's been a fantastic year for EastEnders and its success is well deserved."

Bad Girls was best loved drama with its star Debra Stephenson best actress.

Fat Friends was best new drama and best actor was David Jason at the ceremony at the Dorchester hotel in London.
