It's the Canada Day long weekend. As I looked around the neighbourhood yesterday there wasn't a lot of rah, rah, Canada going on. So I took a lesson from the Americans.
I have Canada Day decorations - and I knew exactly where to find them because of the whole - I'm organized now - thing. The long weekend started off with an entire day of drizzle, rain and 230% humidity so it really wasn't feeling all that celebratory unless you were celebrating big hair and wet feet.
Taking a patriotic cue from my American neighbours, (as opposed to the ones I borrow emergency dinner ingredients from) I started hanging my pride.
It isn't up to true American patriotic standards as I haven't painted my fence red & white or even white in a very long time, nor did I make a single dessert that utilized berries to recreate the flag. Plus there are no visible eagles or shotguns.
My shotgun is locked up and I have an owl.
I'm taking the day off, so please enjoy this puzzle in my absence.
Happy Canada d'eh to my countryfolk.
Jennie Lou
As usual, Lip is my favorite decoration of yours! Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day from the French River

Happy Canada Day 🎉🎉🎉🎉🦉🦉🦉
Amber
Sheesh not even a pinwheel taped to the fence? You Canadians!
(Speaking as a newly dual citizen who has never waved a flag of any sort in her life and hides from the fireworks because that’s what the dog does…)
Hettie
Happy Canada Day, Karen! Love your festive decor. We've got the flags flying a few red and white whirly-gigs about the garden and burgers ready for the barbecue. All the salads are from the garden. Canada is a great place to live. Happy to celebrate it!
Karen
I say celebrate everybody and everything! Happy Canada day! Celebrate it all month long! That’s what I do for the Fourth! I start on flag day (June 14th)and keep that red white and blue theme going through Labor Day.This year on September 2nd. Being a party animal has its advantages. Enjoy 🇨🇦

Happy Canada day Karen! Don't feel bad, we're not that "rah, rah, rah, down here either! (and not all of us have shot guns)
To me, sadly, the sight of the American flag signals crazy, Trump zombies😖😝😣
Karen
Lisa, I fly our flag proudly, not a zombie , a trumpeter , the crazy part is questionable (lol) my parents served as naval officers during World War 2. I still have their burial flags. I treasure them. My eldest son was born on July 4th, so party central with my family. The cookouts , ice cream cakes and fireworks and being with my family, the BEST. Have a fabulous 4th and stay safe!
Lisa Herzberger
Oh, I wasn't insinuating that you were a " zombie " for being proud of our flag/ country. I was referring to Trump's ( Donald J Trump) negative influence and how he's turned his followers into brain washed zombies...my observation/ opinion.
I apologize if I offended you!
Karen
Lisa no offense was taken at all! Let’s just all celebrate and enjoy one another! The obvious lack of civility is what is ruining our wonderful country! Have a happy and safe 4th!
Rochelle
Lisa, isn't is really sad that we have acquiesced the flag to the cra-cra's? I agree with you. :(
Lisa Herzberger
Thank you Karen! All the best to you & yours too!
My dad was in the air force and two of my brothers in law were in Vietnam ( one was wounded) so I know what that flag represents. What is sad ( to me) is the false ," Patriotism" that's running rampant in our country right now. It almost rivals blasphemy the way people put the BIGGEST flag on their Biggest truck and drive around town.
Lisa Herzberger
Thanks Rochelle, yes, I was regretful about the post I made because usually I avoid political statements and its controversial. But the climate of our country is SO infuriating right now and we can't seem to escape it! Our country is so divided that it really does make me sad.
Jennie Lou
That's kinda unfair. Regardless of politics, I'm rather proud of my country and fly my flag all year long, except March, which is Irish month and the green, white, and gold flies!

We are lucky enough to have a
15‘ x 7 1/2‘ Canadian flag that flew over the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill a couple of years ago. It’s hard to know what to do with it though. Today I have a flag over my front door.
We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful country.
Jody
You are indeed privileged to have that flag. That is a family heirloom now.
Jan in Waterdown
Oh my good gosh Peggy…. lucky you!! How the heck did you manage to snag that?? Maybe you could just drape it over your roof and hope the image gets picked up on Google Earth! Wouldn’t that be a blast!!
Imho, we live in THE best country 🥰🇨🇦

I bought a Canada Day hanging basket from Walmart (red and white flowers with a CDN flag in it). Nobody can even see it from the road :)
Happy Canada Day!
Jennifer
I was so confused until I realized you were referring to the 4th of July. Ha. Which to me is more about fireworks and picnics- where you see your friends in relation to the other summer holidays. To me, we should switch over to Juneteenth because some American holidays have always felt creepy if it isn't just about hanging out with family.
Lisa Herzberger
Creepy??? 🤔 I just wish we had ad many holidays as you people do!!!
Canada really got it right!
Jennifer
Canada does seem to have done many things better :)

Your home looks appropriately dressed for the occasion and VERY nice. The best is seeing Phillip looking just as appropriate and nice.Great picture and fun puzzle. Happy Day to you.
canadamsel
Oh! Canada! I like our understated way of celebrating. Happy Canada Day to all Canucks... and those who wish they were.

And here's my dessert
Terry Rutherford
I trust we’ll get to see the patriotic dessert! Philip is indeed the crème. You’ve reminded me, I have to dig out our very miniature flags. Sorta says it all about Canadian flag waving. The sun is shining at last and the gardens are overflowing. I love our country where all that is possible.
christine Hilton
Funny you should say this. This lack of flag waving came up in conversation recently. The concensus was as a country we weren't as religious so God wasn't going to bless US, patriotism was becoming a scary ideology in that same country so we had been pretty smart after all to avoid blatantly showing it and a certain political group have ruined what our flag stood for. I think your penants are perfect! Tasteful, subtle and Canadian!
Kathrina
Happy Canada Day Karen!! I dug out my flag that I’ve had for over 10 years and put it out on my front door. I have never put it out before!!! I maybe should have washed it and hung it out on the clothesline, instead…
Enjoy your d’eh, from the American born abroad.
Randy P
Enjoy your time off - you deserve it. And the cottage looks acceptably "Americanized".
KimS
Very nice! Phillip is the crème de la crème! Happy Canada Weekend!
