3 ingredient homemade dog treats with cooked meat, egg and flour. That's it. They're chewy and soft or crispy and airy - they're whatever you want them to be.
I tried using leftover cooked meat to make dog treats after canning beef broth earlier this month. They turned out so well that I tried again with turkey after Thanksgiving.
I've done other baked dog treats on this site as well as sweet potato chews but I'd say for flavour, these are Philip's favourites.

Ingredients
You can use any cooked meat for these treats.
- cooked meat or poultry
- eggs
- flour
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
Everything gets blended up until the paste elicits a gag reflex. Then you just bake until your desired doneness.
Step 1: Puree meat, egg and flour using a blender, stick blender or food processor.
Step 2: Add just enough water so the mixture blends easily.
NOTE: These treats will work whether the "batter" is thick or runny.
So don't worry too much about the amount of water you're adding.
Step 3: Spread the batter into silicone baking mats for treats. This is a thick batter.
This is a thin batter. Both work.
Step 4: Bake at 325℉ (160℃)until desired doneness. (crispy or chewy) I used every kind of silicone treat mold I own.
Step 4: Flip the molds over to release the treats.
🐩 Treats cooked for half an hour have a cake-like texture inside.
🐩 Treats cooked for 45 minutes or more will be crispy, airy and dry.

Hint: The dryer the treat, the longer it will store well but because these treats are made of fresh ingredients which includes a lot of meat and no acid, I'd recommend storing them in the fridge and extras in the freezer regardless of how dry the treat seems.
Dogs
They're almost 100% meat. So yes, dogs love them. These are the treats you want to use when you really want their attention.
Cats
I conducted a study among one cat. The cat loved the treat. Case closed, they make good cat treats.
Substitutions
- Egg - use dried egg if you like
- Flour - use Cream of Wheat cereal in place of flour
- Turkey - use any cooked meat like beef or liver
See the original black skull dog treat recipe from last year. They're made with powdered charcoal.
Equipment
You'll need a baking pan(s) for the silicone molds to sit on while baking. You can speed up the baking process a little for the dry treats by dumping the treats out of the silicone mold directly onto the baking sheet once they've cooked enough to maintain their shape.
After baking, I also sometimes dehydrate the treats at a low temperature to further reduce the moisture in them. (I use the older version of this 5 tray Excalibur dehydrator)
Storage
Store the treats in mason jars in the fridge or freezer. If I'm going to use them up in a few days I'll just store the crispy dry treats on the counter.
Homemade Dog & Cat Treats
Homemade dog treats made with almost 100% pure meat.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of cooked meat
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons of flour
- Water
Instructions
- Add the meat, egg and flour to a blender and puree.
- Add as much water as you need to for the blender to mix freely. The consistency can be quite thick or runny - both will work.
- Bake in a 325℉ (160℃) oven for 30 minutes - 1 hour.
Notes
- Baking for 30 minutes will create a soft, cake-like chewy treat.
- Baking for 45 minutes -1 hour will get you airy, crispy treats.
- To speed up baking once the treats have cooked enough to hold their shape they'll cook more quickly if you dump them out onto the baking sheet. Silicone doesn't conduct heat well.
- Substitute turkey with beef or any other cooked meat.

Great Karen. Thank you for the cat treat info. I will try for my cat.

Phillip is one lucky dude - his dog mom really cares about him. Every pet owner should care as much...they're family.

I'm no longer a pet owner but have friends and relatives who are, so I'll quickly share this one on Facebook. No doubt they'll appreciate the 'no mystery ingredients' nature of the treats.
