SHOCKER! I'm posting on the weekend. Along with potato chips I'm also full of surprises. The reason you're getting this special weekend edition post is because the time frame for being able to buy or pick Garlic Scapes (the star of this post) is very short. VERY short.
A few days ago I showed you how to make Garlic Scape Pesto, which although very easy, is still a "recipe". You know. With ingredients.
If you'd like to jump on the garlic scape bandwagon in the easiest way possible, just grab yourself scapes, toss them in olive oil, salt and pepper, then grill them.
I like to grill the thinnest ones until they're pretty soft and charred. Yes. Charred. Not completely blackened, but you want some good, crisp charred areas. Once they're done salt and pepper again. If you're feeling especially gourmet ... grate or shave some parmesan cheese over them. HOLY CRAP.
So there you have it. My quick, not all that entertaining, but informative weekend post.
As you were.

The first time I ever made them, that's how I did it. Beyond good. A few weeks ago, I sauteed them up with roasted garlic, olive oil and butter, then dumped some white wine over everybody. We had it over ravioli. A-MA-ZING. The pesto is on my to-try-next list.

Do you like Korean food? Scapes comprise one of my favourite side dishes. Spicy, garlicky and excellent. Mah-nul jong. Love them. We've got so many this year, but the rain is doing a number on the roots right now.

Looks delish!

Oh, wow, what an excellent idea! I've been sauteeing garlic scapes in everything the past three or four weeks, but I didn't think of grilling them! Brilliantly delicious.

Clarification needed...
Did you mean potato chips are full of surprises, or are you full of potato chips?! That question will be plaguing me all day.

Karen, this looks delicious. Garlic Scapes can also be used in salads. I am an avid Garlic lover and eater. I put garlic on almost anything I cook. The Garlic Scapes flavor is so pungent, and so fresh tasting. You can add then to soups, salads, sandwiches, and just about anything that could be enhanced by the flavor of garlic. Feeling a sniffle coming on...Boil some water, place scapes in water for 5 minutes, strain and drink while hot. Watch the sweat just flow out of your body. Great for a cold and sinus. Love them. Thanks for reminding me.
