Volunteer at our Shelter
Volunteers are essential to Stray Rescue's mission. We rely on our devoted volunteers to help us provide a high quality of life to our adoptable animals as they wait for a home. There are many volunteer duties which directly help the animals we are caring for including walking or taking pups to our play yards for exercise and cuddles. Volunteers may also assist in educational outreach, fundraising events, laundry, off-site pet adoptions, kitty socialization, and so much more!
SHELTER VOLUNTEERS
Stray Rescue requires an introductory orientation for all volunteers who will be interacting with our animals. Your training will include safe handling techniques and safety precautions which have been developed to keep you, the shelter animals, other volunteers, and staff safe while you are at Stray Rescue. All applicants must meet certain requirements and be at least 18 years old.

A few things to keep in mind:
- Our calendar for the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons can fill up quickly with some organizations coordinating volunteer dates months ahead. It’s never too early to contact us for your organization’s planned give back day!
- We host corporate volunteer groups weekdays M-Th.
- The morning shift is from 8:30am to 11am. The afternoon shift is from 2:30pm to 5pm.
- The group size that works best for us is around 6 to 8 participants per shift. If your group is larger, we could possibly schedule consecutive dates or possibly both the morning and afternoon shifts.
- We begin with a short group orientation and tour before we allow any interaction with the animals.
- All participants must be at least 18 years old and will need to sign an online accident waiver and confidentiality agreement before we get started.
- Volunteers should come dressed for the current weather, with close-toed shoes and preferably long pants.
- Some of the duties we utilize volunteers for are dog walking, laundry, washing dishes or cleaning, depending on the shelter’s needs on that day.

It is impossible for us to fully express our gratitude for our Volunteers, but we'll do our best to honor them as they deserve. Our Volunteers selflessly allocate their own personal time for the betterment of our beloved animals; serving those without a voice without seeking personal reward or recognition.
Volunteers are woven deep into the fabric of Stray Rescue. Everyday they're at the shelter walking dogs, tackling the endless mounds of laundry, helping with special projects, and most importantly volunteering their love to animals who desperately need to feel the warmth, trust, and compassion of a human touch.
Our animals require unconditional love. In order to love you must open your heart and become emotionally vulnerable to the possibility that things may not work out. And allowing yourself to become vulnerable requires courage knowing that heartache and pain may be on the other side. Our volunteers lean fearlessly into that vulnerability with courage and grace, unafraid of having their hearts broken.
If our precious animals understood the concepts of fortune, fame, and glory they would graciously bestow all of that on our volunteers in return for the endless and unconditional love they receive.
