Our Policies
If Stray Rescue of St. Louis picks up a dog or cat as a stray and he/she does not have a microchip and/or an updated collar with information and you are the owner, this is our policy:- The animal will be held on a 3 day stray hold upon arrival
- When the 3 days are up, the animal will be spayed/neutered
- When the 3 days are up, the animal will be put up for adoption
- If the owner comes forward within the 3 day stray hold, they must prove ownership with vet records
- If the animal requires medical procedures while in our care, it will be the owner’s responsibility to pay this expense
- All pets that are reclaimed are subject to fees paid for by the owner in order to take home. Fees are determined by factors including if the pet is spayed or neutered and how long the pet has been at the shelter.

- We will contact the microchip company immediately to try to find the owners
- When the 5 days are up and we have not had success contacting the owners, the animal will be put up for adoption
- If the animal requires medical procedures while in our care, it is the owner's responsibility to pay this expense
- All pets that are reclaimed are subject to fees paid for by the owner in order to take home. Fees are determined by factors including if the pet is spayed or neutered and how long the pet has been at the shelter.
