Biography

  • TJR is the stage and performing name of American EDM DJ and producer TJ Rozdilsky, originally from Connecticut, he is now based out of Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Rozdilsky’s earliest DJ excursions were within the acid house and techno scene, however by 2008, with an impressive catalogue of original material and remixes under his belt, the DJ began broadening his scope and honing his skills. The move to Los Angeles, California, the home and breeding ground of electronic dance music in 2010, was an important one, and it wasn’t long before the DJ was making a name for himself in the techno/fidget scene. Rozdilsky’s style became synonymous with grimey bass, eclectic vocal samples with an unmistakably techno groove.

TJR’s debut release was the EP “Bass is the Place” released through Lee Mortimer’s Wearhouse Music label. The EP featured the tracks “Sonic Chronic” and “Atomic”, and the DJ later released the well-received singles “Booty Move”, “This World”, and “I Don’t Know Where”, all of which charted well on the beatport charts.

On top of his original material, Rozdilsky has become well-known for his remixing and producing skills. Whether individually or with producer Hot Mouth, TJR has remixed a number artists and singles including Armand Van Helden’s “Boogie Monster”, LA Riots’ “The Drop” and Paul Anthony & ZXX’s “Bang It” to rewarding results. TJR is arguably best known for his writing and producing of the Pitbull song “Don’t Stop the Party” featuring a sample of “Funky Kingston” by Toots and the Maytals. TJR went on to write and produce other tracks on the album including “Funky Vodka” which utilises old-school samples and simple house beats.

Live reviews

  • The back catalogue of TJR is incredibly vast and varying in style, and has been quotes saying that he likes to put in ‘cheeky sound effects and samples’ to help everyone remember the music and find his tracks catchy. He spent years teaching himself in his bedroom studio on YouTube, and creating his own sound. His tracks vary from drum and bass, to acid house and techno, and his crossover sound of his original dance music has proved incredibly popular.

He opened the show with Sonic Chronic, which had everyone going crazy, getting as close to the DJ desk as possible, and jumping up and down. TJR is proficient in scratching, and his live performance manipulated the sound scopes incredibly. Don’t Stop The Party was in the first handful of tracks, and the sample sounds are adapted incredibly to become TJR’s sound, rather than a replica of the sample.

TJR was incredible at getting the audience involved, and when he wasn’t mixing his incredibly complex tracks, he was shouting out to the audience, encouraging us to put our hands in the air, jump around, and immerse ourselves in the audience. He played a great combination of mixes and original tracks, with samples of the radio, synths he’d played himself, and samples of current pop music. His incredible skill to mix up his own original tracks into something new was mind blowing to witness, and really demonstrated his talent.
