Biography

  • Mariah Carey was born on March 27th 1970 in New York, US. Since 1988 she has been one of the premier voices of her generation, her brand of R&B inflected pop and five octave vocal range making her one of the biggest selling musicians of all time.

When one thinks of Mariah Carey, they usually think of her as the music world's alpha diva. It’s a reputation that isn’t entirely unjustified, there is so much more to her than outlandish demands and one hell of a voice.

The Long Island native signed her first record contract in 1988, signing to Columbia Records in 1988 by handing her demo tape to the head of the label at a party, who listened to the tape on his way home from the party, but became so enamoured with her voice that he immediately returned there to find that she’d left.

Needless to say, he found her soon after and the rest is history. Albums like “Music Box” and “Daydream” colonised the 90’s, and saw Carey working with everyone from Luther Vandross, to Boys II Men and even Wu-Tang Clan mentalist Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

While her commercial clout may have withered slightly at the turn of the century, 2005’s “The Emancipation of Mimi” showed that she had staying power with authority, to the tune of 12 million copies sold by 2008.

No more words need to be said about her astonishing voice, one that made no lesser authority than Stevie Wonder rate her in the same league as Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston. However, Mariah Carey is, and always has been, the real deal, and there’s no better time to realize that than right here and right now.

Live reviews

  • Mariah Carey, the original female diva is one of America's most successful recording artists and a sensational live performer. A refreshing style for such an iconic performer, Mariah performs without any grand stage designs or plethora of backing dancers. Instead she commands the stage singularly and allows her vocal to shine around the large venue.

Promoting tracks her 2014 album 'Me. I Am Mariah' the soulful R & B sounds up to date and current yet it is classic singles such as 'Fantasy' that the audience lose their minds for. A fantastic rendition of 'Touch My Body' supported by her brilliant backing singers causes mass excitement within the crowds and a follow-up of 'Lullaby of Birdland' by Ella Fitzgerald allows Mariah to really showcase that synonymous vocal.

Her latest hit single '#Beautiful' demonstrates that Mariah is not out of touch with her contemporaries and still knows how to create infectious R & B/pop tracks. The opening bars to the track everyone was waiting for, 'Hero', begins and the audience lose their mind as Carey proudly stands beneath her spotlight. Although her vocals aren't what they once were, they are still of an impossibly high standard.

  • As the holder of the longest #1 track in the Billboard Top 100 for a whopping 16 weeks, the chance to see Mariah Carey herself perform was an absolutely incredible opportunity.

The arena was buzzing with anticipation before she came onstage, and erupted with enthusiasm as soon as she walked out. From the moment that she bagan singing, it appeared that not a person in sight stopped singing along to the incredibly famous tracks. It was a great experience with everyone joining in even though the audience was absolutely massive, it really gave a sense of community and unification.

Although she's been performing for over 20 years now, her voice was as strong as ever, from her pitch perfect whistles, to her belting moments. Her witty interactions with the audience created a jovial and light hearted mood that everyone seemed to be enjoying, and that positioned alongside her performance of nearly every hit of hers made for a wonderful night.

Whether you're a fan or not, Mariah is an incredible, legendary performer who you should really check out if you get a chance.

  • First of all, tickets are easy to get thanks to the great app. But this is the worst concert I have ever attended, and here are why:

    1. The ticket mentioned very trickily on 8pm we get in, which most of us waited 1 and 1/2 hours then she came out. And she was so late and sell only 60%++, all the fans were allowed to rush to the front rolls to fill the seats which I think was so inappropriate.

    2. She was lip singing all the mid high and high notes and in almost every songs and pretend she could hit it, this is a cheater show. I would never ever pay to watch her sing anymore, if the fans don't mind and keep embracing this lies I have no comment on it.

    3. The lighting and the sound system was disasters, it doesn't worth to watch, it looks like a club performance who sings Mariah Carey but sing bad and not in tune here and there.

    4. The song list was good (bad in away she lip sing) , the overall concert performance was under par, not worth to pay 175 euros to see.

  • I got very excited about Mariah Carey, coming to Munich. So when the concert didnt start before 9pm i wasnt really surprised at all. Unfortunately she didnt show a lot of courage to heat us up. All she did was singing some medleys and then disappearing behind the stage so that her backround dancers and singers were urged to take over. Very sad. Also that she didnt even played 90 minutes, no, it wasnt even 70 minutes and she was gone. Very sad and i cant recommend it to anybody. I would never attend a concert of her. Her voice is great but i also can listen to it on her cds, i dont have to spend hundreds of euros to see her. Its not worth it.

  • Very poor, lazy show. The sets relied heavily on her music videos, strange medelies of some of her work. The staging and dancers were terrible. Expected so much more from such a talented and respected artist. It really felt 10 years out of date and not befitting her reputation and status. Expensive ticket and poor view, the staging only took into account those facing the stage front on and not the fans in the stalls. There was no video screen as the seats at the back were unsold. The only plus... She's a legend, looked great and sounded good although not sure it was always just her and not backing track.

  • For someone who is supposedly "overrated," "washed up," who "can't sing" and "can't sell tickets" anymore she sure did belt out her songs to a SOLD OUT crowd! Simply amazing! This woman is a legend without a doubt. She sounded amazing and put on a great show. This is only my 3rd time seeing her but it was the best show yet! No lip syncing, no one chauffeuring her around on stage, she was walking a singing all on her own! Thanks Mariah for making my Vegas trip magical!

  • Mariah is the ultimate Diva and at times it showed. Although her voice was fabulous really her lack of stage presence was noted. Too many videos, not enough singing of the hits that made her famous and too much time spend backstage I shouldnt have been surpirsed she did the same thing in her prime when I saw her in the 90's. It was ok not great. NAthaniel on the other hand was great!!!

  • Mariah Carey and Christmas. You'd have to be Scrooge not to love it. Audience less than enthusiastic but Queen M still got it. Loved every minute. Mostly Christmas songs with a few classics to conclude. Whilst we of course would love a 'Ones' tour as a festive night out this was brilliant.

  • Absolutely amazing! She still got's it! Anyone who said she doesn't obviously has not been to her concert. A lamb till the very end. She is a queen! Everything went great. The venue was beautiful. I had really good seats, but by the looks of it I doubt there was a bad seat in the house.
