Biography

  • Ginuwine, born- Elgin Baylor Lumpkin- on October 15th 1970, from Texas, America, is an R&B singer-songwriter, dancer, rapper and actor.

R&B artist, Ginuwine became friends with many musicians who were highly regarded in the rap and R&B industry, who subsequently led him on the path to success. These people included the likes of Missy Elliot and Timbaland, these turned out to become his principal collaborators throughout the 1990s.

Timbaland and Ginuwine worked well together and this was made evident through Ginuwine's first single, titled "Pony". It showcased his charming and smooth vocals together with Timbaland's original production flair. Interestingly, "Pony" proved to be a hit and was used in the film, 2007’s Wild Hogs, and also used in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008.

However, after the success of Ginuwine’s second album, the duo grew apart. Much to the enjoyment of producers R. Kelly, who helped Ginuwine from then, producing hit after hit.

Ginuwine has achieved great success, this was proved in 2001 when he had a number-four hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with the single "Differences", which also peaked at number-one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. Just a year later however, the musician’s parents both passed away. This encouraged him to write and produce more sombre songs from the heart, such as , “Two Reasons I Cry".

Live reviews

  • There were two shows on April 14 and 15 at the Horseshoe casino and I must say that all the performers did deliver.

One thing that I like about Ginuwine is that he is very focused and serious about his art. His reputation is very important to him and you can bet money that if his name is on a show, he will bring it. He is very personable and loves to interact with the fans whom he calls supporters, which is also an enduring quality. He truly does appreciate us as his supporters. Some artists take their fans for granted and may not treat them well. He does not have a big head and does not appear to be stuck on himself. He is such a gentleman. He brings roses to every show and gives them to ladies in the audience. He always jumps out into the crowd and gets us ladies worked up. You can tell that he put a lot of practice into his performance. When he performs you can feel his spirit. I think that he is a beautiful man, not just on the outside, I think he has a beautiful heart, soul and spirit.

This man has the entire package because he sings and dances. After 20 years in the business, his voice still sounds good and he can move that body. He keeps himself in shape so that he can perform at his best. I don't want to mention any names but I have seen some artists who have truly let themselves go. He truly understands the importance of his appearance when he does a show.

One time I was watching a video of him getting ready for a show on Youtube and he mentioned that we paid our money and that we deserve to see a good show. Some artists don't seem to care nor understand that.

R & B music is my first love. Anyone who truly loves R & B music should go to one of Ginuwine's shows.

I call him Ginuwine the Gentleman.

I also like the fact that you can tell that he has a lot of respect for women. I have never heard him say anything derogatory about women. He has daughters so I know he has a lot of understanding and respect for women.

I read recently that he got divorced which is unfortunate but occurs a lot in our society today. I know that he will not have a problem finding another beautiful woman to share his life with.

Anytime Ginuwine comes to the Chicago land/northwest Indiana area I make sure to budget my time and money so that I can see his show.

I just love me some Ginuwine a.k.a Elgin Baylor Lumpkin.

  • Is there a classic R&B banger that says the nineties quite like Ginuwine’s ‘Pony’. The beat, lyrics and delivery are all smoother than smooth, and made all the more remarkable by the fact that they’re coming from a man born Elgin Baylor Lumpkin, which sounds like a name more befitting some kind of elfin children’s character than an impossibly debonair ladies’ man. Even if he’s struggled to scale the same heights as he found himself at in the nineties in the years since, he’s still plugged away throughout the noughties, releasing new records and touring the UK several times, most notably on a joint jaunt with fellow smooth operator Joe. In fact, it was the collaborative nature of his tours that would ultimately lead to his latest project; last year, he dropped the record Three Kings, as one-third of TGT alongside Tyrese and Tank, who hail from that same nineties scene and go a way back (Tyrese was best man at Ginuwine’s wedding). They toured the UK last year, too, performing their new cuts as well as delving into their own solo catalogues to delight female audiences across the land. They’re likely to be back before long - Ginuwine has been a regular fixture on these shores for a while - but in the meantime, check out Three Kings from some genuinely superb harmonisation.

  • Elgin Baylor Lumpkin better known by his stage name Ginuwine is an American singer-songwriter and rapper. A huge commercial hit in the 90's, his reputation is now of cult like status. He has continued to release solid material which feature collaborations from the likes of Mary J Blige and Timbaland.

Now his live show is a pick of his new tracks along with classics such as 'What's So Different?'. A humble performer, he builds great rapport with his audience from the moment he steps onstage and smiles fondly as the fans scream below. Beginning with a note perfect rendition of 'Tell Me Do U Wanna' the audience begins to dance and rap along as the iconic performer commands the atmosphere with his freestyle ability.

A mature performer, he showcases his smooth R & B vocal on new tracks such as 'I Need' and 'What Could've Been'. He jumps down to his adoring fans for 'So Anxious' before wrapping up with his first single and biggest hit, 'Pony' which causes a frenzy of excitement and a huge singalong before he exits looking pleased.

  • I have been a fan since 1994 and Friday night my husband brought me to celebrate my birthday. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday present. Ginuwine was AMAZING.

The only portion of the concert that was dishearting was the fact that I had to leave the stage area due to high levels of weed being smoked in the premises. I am a Soldier of the United States Army and could lose my career for that.

  • Ginuwine was fun and entertaining as usual! I love how interacts with the audience. He gave me and my sister a rose and champagne! That was especially awesome since it was my sister's birthday and she has been a fan since she was 12. We had a great time and will be seeing him again next month when he comes to Chicago! You will definitely have a good time if you see him live!

  • Great show! Love his high energy! Wish I had actually met him we were so close but he was too busy with pics.... U know.. Gotta make that payperrrr! I love his music. I would have chosen a different outfit for pic since we were all looking amazing in our white attire. I was not paying for a pic with him dressed in street clothes cap and shades.

  • By far, one of the best performances of his I've seen in a long time. No one else in the line up, just Ginuwine, a full band, and his phenomenal background vocalists. This was very reminiscent of the 1996-early 2000's Ginuwine shows.
