    LUKSONG LUBID

    This game is similar to the Western


    skip-rope or jump-rope game,
    played mostly by girls. The objective
    is for an individual or teams to score
    the highest in skipping or jumping
    over the rope while it is being
    turned continuously over the head
    and under the feet of players. The
    two ends of the rope are held and
    turned over by two people. “Lukso”
    is tagalog for jump and “lubid”
    means rope.
    Jumping rope is on the list of
    the top local games played on
    the streets by Filipino children.
    The fun moments and
    relationship developed are the
    best things in playing the
    game. It is part of the
    childhood to experience these
    games as a way of life. Apart
    from enjoying the games, there
    are also benefits gained.
    The game is an effective way to help
    get in shape and enhance endurance.
    Skipping makes a great warm up.
    Jumping rope for at least an hour
    burns calories in the body. The game
    is excellent for improving and
    maintaining cardio vascular health. It
    is also good for strengthening the
    upper body, mostly arms and
    shoulders. Jumping with two feet help
    avoid knee damage which may occur
    during running. It is associated in the
    training of athletes involved in
    wrestling and boxing.
    HISTORY
    • The first concrete evidence of jump rope comes from Medieval
    European paintings of kids jumping rope through the street.
    The exact origin of the jump rope activity is still unclear
    • The Jump Rope Institute notes that jumping rope dated from
    ancient China and Westerner’s reports perhaps the game
    originated in Egypt in 1600 AD
    • The jump rope is of the famous game in the Philippines It has
    been invented during the 1700’s and the game is played
    mostly be girls inside or outside the house. Luksong lubid
    came from the ancient civilization of Egypt
    • The early 1900 jump rope or “luksong lubid” had become popular since
    both boys and girls were playing it. In this generation they try to put it in
    more fun by adding some music or manual way of counting when playing
    it.
    • Throughout the years these game had not only become a form of exercise
    but also a competitive sport. This game invented by the American while
    the Filipino has been vocal to imitate and teach the whole country how it’s
    supposed to be done
    • The game is traditionally played with two individuals swinging a rope in a
    circle while players take turns jumping while singing or chanting. If a player
    is out to the rhythm of the steps hereby hitting the rope, the next player
    will take turn while the loser will be the one to swing the rope. Through the
    evolution, there were techniques created in the procedure. Some of the
    techniques included are jump forward, jump backward, alternating foot,
    double under and many others. Jumping rope can also be done alone while
    performing tricks.

    MOVEMENTS
    The “IT” stands on one place as she turns the
    rope and jumps on two feet or skips
    alternately with right and left feet.
    The other player jumps inside the rope facing
    the “IT” The rope should be above the head
    of the “IT” when the other player jumps in.
    The other player turns around to face the
    other direction and moves forward and
    backward with the “IT”.
    When the other player fails to coordinate his
    movements with the “IT” he automatically
    steps on the rope. The two players exchange
    roles.
    RULES
     

    • No one should touch or be


    touched by the turning rope.
    • No one should step on the
    rope.
    • Two “ITs” hold the two ends
    of the rope and turn the rope
    clockwise or
    counterclockwise.
