Introduction to Business
Course Overview
About This Course
This course will introduce students to the field of business and management and the
role business plays in our society. The course offers an overview of basic business
and management concepts, terminology, institutions, practices, and operations. It
examines the various aspects of business management and their relationships with
each other. Apart from familiarizing the students with the knowledge of general
business terms, concepts, and theories, this course aims to give students an
appreciation of business in general.
Learning Objectives
1. To introduce learners to core business ideas, and give an overview of the basic
business processes, methods and functions. (Knowledge)
2. To develop necessary skills and abilities needed to succeed in a business school
and subsequently, prepare them for professional life. (Skills)
3. To give students a holistic appreciation of the role of business in our lives, and the
role that business plays in our society. (Attitude)
Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. Identify and describe the internal and external environmental factors and how they
influence the operations of modern business.
2. Understand the role of management within a business setting
3. Explain the marketing functions, its concepts and processes involved in designing
an effective marketing program for business
4. Explore the effective ways of utilizing technology in completion of the business
process
5. Describe the role of accounting and financial information and the challenges
managers face in taking the financial decisions.
