Student Council Responsibilities

• Serve as the bridge of communication between GGA’s students and administration


• Assist GGA students in voicing their ideas for school improvement
• Understand the opinions and suggestions of GGA students
• Organize and participate in school events

Quali cations to Run


• Honor Roll made in the previous quarter
• No more than 5 CANs earned in the previous quarter
• All Student Council members must be from ULC

Campaign Speech
• All candidates must give at least one campaign speech during the election period in which they
state their vision for GGA and the student body with respect to their desired position
• Speeches should align with Christian principles and school values
• Speeches will be recorded

Election Process
• Elections for Student Council members will be held in the first two academic weeks of each
quarter
• Giving items (e.g. cookies, lollipops, etc.) to voters with the intent of obtaining their votes is
prohibited and considered stealing votes
• All offices are elected by ULC students
• Every ULC student must vote
• Refer to “Election Timeline”

Decision Processes in Student Council


• Votes will be held under the supervision of the Secretary and Teacher Representative
• Votes may only be held in Student Council meetings
• Votes may only be held with the consent of the Secretary and the presence of a Teacher Repre-
sentative
• Votes may only be held when 4 or more members of Student Council are present and partaking
in the vote
• The Secretary will record the votes and communicate the results to the Student Council

1. President
• Serves for 1 academic quarter
• Represents the Student Council to GGA and the student body
• Represents GGA
• Chairs Student Council meetings
• Schedules time for Student Council meetings
• Contributes to Student Council meetings and discussions
• Always participates in Student Council events
• Votes on matters within Student Council

2. Vice President
• Serves for 1 academic quarter
• Fulfills the President’s responsibilities as Acting President when they are unavailable
• Ends Student Council meetings
• Checks the Secretary’s Student Council notes and other information
• Helps schedule time for Student Council meetings
• Contributes to Student Council meetings, discussions, and information organization
• Participates in Student Council events
• Votes on matters within Student Council

3. Secretary
• Appointed by the President with approval from the Teacher Representative and half of the Stu-
dent Council
• Takes notes in Student Council meetings
• Records the election, resignation, and removal of Student Council members
• Records agendas, decisions, votes, and debates in Student Council
• Holds votes in Student Council
• Assists in scheduling time for Student Council meetings
• Contributes to Student Council meetings, discussions, and information organization
• DOES NOT vote on matters within Student Council

4. Class Representative
• Each Class Representative is elected by the students of their class
• Serves for 1 academic quarter
• Represents their Learning Center to GGA and Student Council (only ULC1, ULC2, and MLC)
• Communicates with their Learning Center’s supervisor and monitor
• Contributes to Student Council meetings and discussions
• Participates in Student Council events
• Votes on matters within Student Council
Student Council Campaigning and Election Timeline
Campaigning and elections will take place in the first week of every quarter.

Days 1-2:
Students desiring to run for Student Council nominate themselves to their supervisors.

Days 3-5:
Student Council candidates are announced.
Campaigning begins.
Speeches are presented.

Day 5/6: ELECTION DAY/S


Elections for all positions are held.

Note to administration: Election times for Class Representatives may vary between Learning Centers. It
is the responsibility of the individual Learning Center’s supervisor to schedule Class Representative
election times. Class Representatives should not be elected at an unreasonable time or past the first fif-
teen academic days of the quarter.
Student Council Election Timeline

Academic Days 1 & 2:


Students interested in running for Student Council submit their nominations to the faculty.
NOTE: ANY NAMES SUBMITTED AFTER DAY 2 WILL BE INELIGIBLE

Academic Day 3:
Nominees for Student Council will have been announced.
Campaigning begins.

Academic Day 3 to Academic Day before the second Prime Time of the Quarter:
Campaigning is finished.

Academic Day before the second Prime Time of the Quarter:


Elections for Student Council are held.

Prime Time following all elections:


Members of the Student Council are announced during Prime Time.

Note: Class Representative election times may vary across Learning Centers. It is the discretion of the
individual supervisor to decide their Class Representative election times. Class Representatives should
not be elected after the President and Vice President are elected.
Appendix
Conditions for Removal or Resignation from Student Council
• Earning 5 or more CANs during Student Council member’s term
• Forced removal by school administration for inappropriate behavior
• Resignation from Student Council due to health issues, enrollment withdrawal from GGA, or
other personal reasons

Following a Removal or Resignation from Student Council


• If the President is temporarily unable to serve, the Vice President will serve as Acting President
until the President is available again
• If both the Vice President and President are temporarily unable to serve, then the ULC2 Class
Representative will serve as Acting President and the ULC1 Class Representative will serve as
Acting Vice President until the President and the Vice President are available again.
• If a Class Representative is temporarily unable to serve, no Acting Representative is required to
fill their place.
• If any member of Student Council is permanently unavailable or unavailable for what Student
Council or the administration deems an abnormally long amount of time, an election will be
held as quickly as possible for the open position.
• The school administration reserves the right to choose temporary members of Student Council
when necessary.
